Blue Christmas

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my mother not only told me that my ex-husband will be spending Thanksgiving with her and my dad, but that I'm also no longer invited to spend the holiday with my family. FML
Today, my mother called to uninvite me from Christmas, my ex-wife is going and she doesn't want it to be awkward for her. FML
Today, my mom is coming to pick up the Christmas presents we got for her and her husband. She won’t come inside or come within 6 feet, so she can be healthy when she goes down to the ex-wife’s parents house to hang out. The ex in-laws that hate me. Glad my mom chose them over me. FML
Today, my mom told me she wouldn't be able to leave my middle-aged brother at home for Christmas in order to meet her first grandchild. FML
Today, I thought my mom and I could put aside our differences and open our Christmas presents. When she opened mine, she turned to my dad and said she didn't want the present, so I could give it to someone else. 'Tis the season. FML
Today, besides the fact that I hate Christmas since my parents divorced, my mom told me she can't come this year with my sister because of no money. We even offered to pay for their tickets, but she won't come because of the "last minute" stress. Fuck this year. FML
Today, it's 49 days until Christmas, and all I can think of is how it’s mine and my partner's first Christmas together but she’ll be out of town. Apparently, she’d rather hang out with her whackjob family rather than my normal, stable family. FML
Today, my girlfriend's mother is more into me than she is. FML
Today, I learned that instead of spending Christmas alone with my cat, enjoying chicken quesadillas and a tin of tuna while watching only the best cartoons, my mother's coming over. FML
Today, after having recently moved 300 miles to be with my boyfriend of 2 years, I have to celebrate Christmas alone. He never thought our relationship important enough to tell his family about me, and doesn't want it to be "awkward." FML

I'm sorry that you're mother feels that way. But, maybe she feels unappreciated and maybe she doesn't want to do Christmas with people who possibly take her for granted. Of course, it could be all out selfishness on her behalf. If it's the first one maybe show her that she is appreciated by her family. I came out of a relationship and part of the reason was because I did not appreciate and thus took for granted everything my partner did. Long periods of such behaviour will lead to resentment from the person it is directed at. I hope this helps and I hope you are able to enjoy the holidays.

I mean, if your family (excluding you) is toxic, I'm with your mom on this one. That's why I always spend Christmas with my fiancé and his family now instead of with my biological family. Either way, I'm sorry OP.

Why can't it be both? Maybe your Dad would object?
