Today, I rushed onto the metro to get to work. I found there were no seats left and asked a perfectly healthy guy to let me sit in the handicap spot. He refused to because "being tired" was a handicap characteristic. I have one leg. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, on my way to school, I was shouted at by an obnoxious businessman for sitting down on the train when a "full fare paying passenger" was standing. I would normally have given him the seat straight away, except I have a broken leg. I showed him my leg and crutches. He still made me get up. FML
Excuses
Today, a woman on the train demanded I give up my seat for her, claiming it was for people with disabilities. Tired from a long day at work, and seeing she had nothing wrong with her, I asked what her disability was. Apparently, obesity is one. FML
Asshat
Today, I got on the subway with a broken leg. A kind woman stood up and offered me her seat. Before I could sit down, a guy shoved past me and took it for himself. The woman and I pointed out my cast and crutches, and asked him to give up the seat. He responded by flipping us off. FML
Broke
Today, while sitting in a handicapped seat on the bus, an old man angrily approached me and chewed me out in front of everyone for not leaving the seat empty for "those who actually need it." Then he stormed off the bus, stepping heavily on my broken foot. FML
SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!
Today, I got on a train and spotted a free seat. I rushed over, sat down and sighed with relief, only to realize people were looking at me. That’s when I saw the “Reserved for the elderly or disabled” sign…and the man with a cane standing in front of me. I immediately offered him the seat, but he just shook his head and said, “You’re gonna need it after this shaming.” FML
You tried
Today, I offered my seat to an elderly lady on the subway. She quietly refused. Minutes later on a sharp turn, she almost fell down on two people. As I was clearly the youngest in the disability seating section, everyone on the train turned and glared at me. FML
Taking a stand
Today, I had to run for the train, but because of my bad foot and limping they held the train, much to people's displeasure. No one let me sit down, so for the 20 minute journey, I stood. With a bad foot. FML
Today, a co-worker and I walked out of our office at the same time. He got in his car, which was parked right out front. I asked him what I had to do to get a sweet parking spot like that. He rolled up his pant leg and show me his prosthesis. He was in the handicapped spot. FML
Today, I told a guy he should be ashamed of himself for parking in a handicapped space. He hit me with his prosthetic leg. FML
Today, I gave up my seat on the subway for an elderly man. He thanked me by grabbing my ass. FML

Was it obvious, or did you have a prosthetic covered with pants?

Not everyone who looks "perfectly healthy" is perfectly healthy. A lot of disabilities are invisible. That said, were there no other handicap spots on the train? Somebody else could have--and should have--gotten up off their ass for you to sit down.

I say that I'm disabled. There is no reason for half the comments to bully a REAL disabled person over the tiny possibility that someone MIGHT be disabled.

I didn't think pointing out that some disabilities are invisible and maybe the guy who refused to move is also disabled constituted bullying. I am fully sympathetic with OP. I have a sense of what it's like because when I was recovering from a broken wrist a couple of years ago, there was one time nobody would give me their seat, even with me asking (they just ignored me). And the big red cast on my arm was kind of hard to miss.

If he gave a valid excuse for being tired a.k.a. a type of illness, then that would be okay. However, if he just wanted to sit there, it would've been funny if you whacked him off the seat with your prosthetic leg.

comments: but but but what if he's disabled too? what if you're just a horrible ableist??? me, an "invisibly" disabled person: NO you judgmental jerks. NO.

Yeah, pretty much nobody is bullying OP for being ableist. Pointing out that the guy could have an invisible disability is a valid point, especially since OP could have asked someone else, and if disabled seating is really THAT scarce, they should speak with management about that matter. You've obviously never been harassed by a visibly disabled person and their family because they didn't think your invisible disability made you "handicapped enough" to need to use the services. Or had someone try to make security or management make you surrender the disabled accessibility service you are using because they are "more disabled" than you.
