Today, I was texting the guy I like. I asked him why our friend didn't want to come to the movies with us. He replied, "She didn't want to be the third wheel, but it's not like I'm going to put the moves on you. I'm out of your league, and you're socially awkward anyway." That's just what I wanted. FML
Today, the guy I liked came over for dinner with some friends. One of them asked him if we were dating, he became so distraught he started to choke on the food I had made, in his haste to tell them that in no uncertain terms, were we together. FML
Today, a guy who I was low-key crushing on asked me out. I excitedly told my best friend, as I do when I have big news. She informed me that the same guy asked her out 15 minutes ago. He'd originally been into her and only came to me because she rejected him. FML
Today, I told a guy at work about my boyfriend. His immediate response was to ask me if I was making him up. He's the third person to react this way. FML
Today, I went on a date with a guy that I really like. At the last minute he informed me a friend would be tagging along. To keep his friend from being a third-wheel, I kept up a conversation, and managed to piss my date off. He thought I would be a better match for his friend. FML
Today, I heard the guy I love talk to a friend of his. He was telling his friend how he appreciates all my attention, affection, and random gestures such as buying him lunch sometimes, but he’ll never see me in a romantic way because I’m “too fat for his taste.” I was basically used the entire time. FML
Today, I was told by the guy I've liked for years that he would date me if he was straight. FML
Today, I found out my boyfriend was crushing on his best friend. When I found out, I asked him about it. He replied, "Don't worry, she's perfect and is way too good for me." FML
Today, I told the guy I liked about my crush on him. He said he would keep me in mind if he ever hits rock bottom. FML
Today, my friend told me that she gave my number to a guy I've liked for a while. I asked why and she just said "He's just going to have to tell you himself." I got hopeful and really nervous. A few hours later he calls. Turns out, he's called to try and get a date with my gay friend. FML

I think it's a bit hypocritical to call him a jerk. And I'm a girl. I know we'd say the same type of things about a guy we find unpleasant. We don't know who these people are. Maybe he is a nice guy who genuinely dislikes her as a person or maybe he is a shallow douche. We can't tell. At least he was not saying that to her face but to a friend with no idea that she was eavesdropping. Either way OP, it sure is a blow for you. Time to move on.

I think the reason why the stereotypes exist is because men are often thought to be mainly interested in a women's physical attributes above anything else . So people assume , oh that guy rejected that girl , probably because he didn't find her physically attractive, not really questioning if she has a god awful personality on top of it . The saying holds true that females mature earlier than males, and perhaps OP's friend is still at that age where he deems outward appearances outweigh other virtues that wiser men value highly. The best kind of retribution in this situation is to move on, and become the person whom he will later regret having lost.

I had a friend like that once. We thought it was absolutely crazy thatd we would ever be thought of as a couple. And then we dated. And then married. If he is your friend, he may just be acting mean so he wont break your heart. It really just pays to talk to him in private.

OP, If I was in your place I'd end up tapping his shoulder, smiling sweetly and saying " And I'm way above them, right sweetheart?" Finish it off with a wink and walk away feeling absolutely awesome. BUT since this has been posted on FML, and I get the feeling that you didn't retort, You need to smile, be confident and make him realise that you actually are way outta his league. You go girl :D

The good news is that you can quit wasting your time pursuing him -- you now know definitively that he is not interested in you. Move on. To all the people who have said the guy was an "asshole," "jerk," etc.: You do realize that you are insulting the OP yet again. You are saying that she has bad taste in selecting men. Let's grow up, here, not everyone is going to like everyone who likes them. Once you stop obsessing over someone who is obviously not going return your affection, the sooner you can find someone who does. That's good advice from someone who wasted lots of time in hopeless causes.

It has nothing to do with obligation to return everyone's affection. It is the fact he is a shallow twit who doesn't comprehend real relationships. Yeah, ok.. have fun lusting after people you wanna screw over and over. That is not love, that is finding sex objects. People are far too shallow because looks end up fading..
