Today, I once again told my son he needed a job and a girlfriend because I simply could not keep him in my house anymore. He yelled, "No, I can do whatever I want!" Then went back to playing video games. He's 38. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Gamers rise up
Today, despite the fact that I've lived alone for four years, and have a well-paid job, my father is still whining about, "Why am I still playing video games at age 32?" FML
Authoritarian regime
Today, after my husband yet again failed to complete his To-Do list, I took away his Xbox and PlayStation and told him he could have them back once the list was done. He stared at me and said, "No. You're not my mother. Give them back and we will talk like adults." FML
I'm a rebel, mom!
Today, my son is going through a rebellious phase. He's taken to wearing leather and chains, listening to death metal music all day in his room alone, and screaming at me in public places. He was fired from his part-time job for swearing at customers. My son is 29 years old. FML
Sounds like he's got it all figured out
Today, my son apparently has no interest in having a life. He goes from his tiny one-bed flat to work, then back home again to play with his computer. It’s a good job, so he can afford a life, but he has no friends, never dates or goes anywhere, he even gets his shopping delivered. What can I do? FML
Today, I found out my son has been sneaking out of his room at night to see his girlfriend. He's a fully-grown 23-year-old man with a job and his own car. He doesn't need to sneak out. What an idiot. FML
Teenage Riot
Today, my son had a screaming meltdown because I told him to clean his own room and that I refuse to be treated like his personal maid. He’s 16. FML
Family matters
Today, in response to the guy whose son told him to fuck off for disturbing his one day off a week, my son spent literally his entire savings account for a deposit on a shitbox one bedroom house because he’s sick of his dad finding him things to do every ten minutes, and I don’t even blame him. FML
Micromanagement
Today, my son screamed at me to fuck off. Apparently, because he only gets one day off a week, he’s sick of me saving up all my projects and forcing him to help me on that one day. He’s now barricaded himself in his room with a big DO IT YOURSELF on the door. FML
Mixed messages
Today, I learned that my wife lets our son play video games while I'm at work to "keep him out of her hair." We had agreed that he was forbidden from gaming until his grades came up, but apparently she can't be bothered to actually parent. FML
He got game
Today, my son told me he's had 5 boyfriends and is currently working to improve himself before getting into another relationship. When I was his age, I was still single. My son has more game than I do. FML

Did you ever think about addressing this problem a little earlier?

YDI for letting it get that far. Just throw his stuff out and change the locks. The guy is 38 for ****'s sake.

You're not really doing him any favours by letting him stay at your place for a lifetime. He needs a wakeup-call. Either tell him he isn't allowed to play video-games in your house (your house, your rules - true, he can do whatever he wants, anywhere else, but not in your house), tell him he needs to pay rent, electricity and food if he wants to stay, or simply tell him he has 2-3 months to move out. And whatever you do, stick to it and enforce it, no matter what he says and does. No one should be allowed to live off their parents until the age of 40.

By 25 he should've has his own place by now. YDI for not addressing this earlier. How old were you when you moved out of your parent's, mid-40s?

just throw him out.

YDI for letting him get away with it for so long. Simply telling him every so often that he needs to become a productive member of society obviously isn't working. Grow a set and cut him off. If he's not contributing to your household don't let him reap the benefits. Make him buy his own food, wash his own clothing and dishes, pay rent and part of the other house hold expenses. When he can't pay up kick the bum out. I would also like to know how is he buying video games if he has no job....

FOREVER ALONE.

Probably the time for being consequent: Tell him to get his ass out of the house. Tell him, he's got 2 month for finding a flat (and if its a 1room flat in a shitty place - if he had a job he could do better) if he hasn't, kick him out anyway. He'll make it one way or the other. If you let him do whatever he wants, then he's technically right so YDI.

single mother I bet, therefore she probably felt bad for him or was too busy banging other men to pay any attention to him until now that she's not married to anyone...or vice versa. ydi either way.

Is that what happened to your mom and you? Cause I can't imagine you think you know enough to generalize/stereotype about a whole lot of people whose circumstance you can't even begin to understand.

Nope, my parents bestowed upon me morals, values and integrity and to get a JOB and to live on my own, unlike OP who allowed her baby-child to leech off of her for 38 years.
