Today, I once again told my son he needed a job and a girlfriend because I simply could not keep him in my house anymore. He yelled, "No, I can do whatever I want!" Then went back to playing video games. He's 38. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Gamers rise up
Today, despite the fact that I've lived alone for four years, and have a well-paid job, my father is still whining about, "Why am I still playing video games at age 32?" FML
Authoritarian regime
Today, after my husband yet again failed to complete his To-Do list, I took away his Xbox and PlayStation and told him he could have them back once the list was done. He stared at me and said, "No. You're not my mother. Give them back and we will talk like adults." FML
I'm a rebel, mom!
Today, my son is going through a rebellious phase. He's taken to wearing leather and chains, listening to death metal music all day in his room alone, and screaming at me in public places. He was fired from his part-time job for swearing at customers. My son is 29 years old. FML
Sounds like he's got it all figured out
Today, my son apparently has no interest in having a life. He goes from his tiny one-bed flat to work, then back home again to play with his computer. It’s a good job, so he can afford a life, but he has no friends, never dates or goes anywhere, he even gets his shopping delivered. What can I do? FML
Today, I found out my son has been sneaking out of his room at night to see his girlfriend. He's a fully-grown 23-year-old man with a job and his own car. He doesn't need to sneak out. What an idiot. FML
Teenage Riot
Today, my son had a screaming meltdown because I told him to clean his own room and that I refuse to be treated like his personal maid. He’s 16. FML
Family matters
Today, in response to the guy whose son told him to fuck off for disturbing his one day off a week, my son spent literally his entire savings account for a deposit on a shitbox one bedroom house because he’s sick of his dad finding him things to do every ten minutes, and I don’t even blame him. FML
Micromanagement
Today, my son screamed at me to fuck off. Apparently, because he only gets one day off a week, he’s sick of me saving up all my projects and forcing him to help me on that one day. He’s now barricaded himself in his room with a big DO IT YOURSELF on the door. FML
Mixed messages
Today, I learned that my wife lets our son play video games while I'm at work to "keep him out of her hair." We had agreed that he was forbidden from gaming until his grades came up, but apparently she can't be bothered to actually parent. FML
He got game
Today, my son told me he's had 5 boyfriends and is currently working to improve himself before getting into another relationship. When I was his age, I was still single. My son has more game than I do. FML

Did you ever think about addressing this problem a little earlier?

YDI for letting it get that far. Just throw his stuff out and change the locks. The guy is 38 for ****'s sake.

Say "not in this house you can't!" and ground him from video games. Your house, your rules.

no then kick him out of the house

Agreed. OP, you let this situation get way out of hand. Also, why does he need a gf? Single people can function perfectly well in the real world thankyouverymuch. Your son needs a job and a roommate who is not a member of his family.

that's what you get for not cutting the umbilical cord.

Agreed. I would have thrown all his shit in the street years earlier.

tell him to get off your property before you call the police

she probably threw in the gf comment because she's tired of washing his spunk-filled socks.

I was thinking that too, Yanksby. Having a girlfriend at this point would just make his life harder. Luckily, it's extremely hard to even get a girlfriend if you are 38 and unemployed.

I'm going to have to go with a YDI. He learned to be a lazy mooch from somewhere, and going just off of what's in your post, you're probably weren't very firm or disciplining when he was growing up.

I completely agree. He's been in the house at least 13-15 years longer than he should be and she allowed it for this long. Maybe she should've kicked some motivation into his ass when he went into high school. This FML kind of sickens me because I can't think of a way that OP did not bring this onto herself.

It isn't her fault. Acting a little childish at age 16 is one thing. Living at your parents at 38 and having no problem with that is another story.
AnagenisisZagus 13
175, how is this NOT her fault. She raised him, she was to discpline him he ever went out of line, and yet she failed miserably at the fact this old bastard still thinks it's gnarly to live with the moms. If I were to ever have kids, I would make sure if they ever tried that crap even at 18, they would earn a nice kick in the ass on their way out. Keep the little ******* in line. :)

175, had OP done something and put some effort into raising her son at 16, he would not be where he is now at 38. See, we learn most things such as ideas, opinions, beliefs, habits, etc. when we are young. Those ideas, opinions, beliefs, habits, etc. translate and carry on into your adult life. Obviously he was taught to be lazy and unmotivated. OP has been a **** up of a parent from the get go. I've been steadily holding a job since I was 16 because my mother always taught me to be independent and have my own money. I'm only 20 but I can guarantee you I won't be living at home with mommy & daddy for more than a few more years.

YDI for not kicking him out by now

Ahaha I love that movie!

Ydi for putting up with that for 38 years. Grab his controller and throw it out the front door. When he goes after it, change the locks. I understand he's your son, but you aren't doing what is best for him as a parent by letting him leech off of you.

Wow, he needs a life lesson, and quick. Pack his stuff up and tell him that he has to move out or you'll sell it, or just cut the electric to his room and make him pay rent/bills or something. I know he's your son and all and you don't want to abandon him on the street, but he needs a wake up call.

what would they do in stepbrothers? oh I know you could marry someone in the same situation!!!

This FML is just fail all around. :( One that he is still acting like that towards you at his age, and two he doesn't have a life what so ever. It's just sad. Maybe, throw his console out the window and he'll dolphin dive to get it? Then lock him out!
