Today, I met my son for the first time since I had to put him up for adoption over two decades ago. I wanted to make amends and get to know him. Instead, all I got to know was how well he can throw a punch. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Nice meeting you…
Today, I met my biological father for the first time. He seemed to be slightly intoxicated from the outset, and less than half an hour later, he had tried to intimidate me into "loaning" him several hundred euros for reasons he wouldn't tell me. So long, "dad". FML
Today, I saw my son. I didn't know I had a son. FML
Picky
Today, my son broke up with his girlfriend. When I asked why, he said, "Because I found out she's adopted. Ugh. I just can't with that, y'know?" Never before have I ever felt the desire to disown one of my kids. It's not a pleasant feeling. FML
How does that work?
Today, after I spent years, and thousands of dollars, searching for my birth father, he changed his mind about adopting me. FML
This Is Us
Today, I located my birth dad and asked him why I was put into care. Turns out my mom died, and since he hadn’t wanted me in the first place, he just gave me away and hoped to never see me again. He didn’t even invite me in, he threw a beer at me and threatened to call the cops unless I left. FML
Confusing guys and their bro code
Today, my son tried to fight my husband, his step-dad, who knocked him to the floor with one good punch. I was ready to throw my husband out, but an hour later they were having a heart-to-heart, and now they get along better than they ever have. HUH?!! FML
Let down
Today, after an ex let me know I have a 19 year old-son. I was beyond excited so I spent the weekend with them and I can tell you now, the boy is a complete prick, and I prefer to continue to claim I’m childless rather than admit I fathered that arrogant, rude, selfish, entitled little shit. FML
Today, I met my biological parents for the first time. Their justification for giving me up for adoption was that I wasn't conceived at the ideal time for them. Apparently, the ideal time was six months after the adoption, when they conceived the first of my two brothers. FML
Harsh but fair
Today, I lashed out at the father of my son for not doing anything for the baby. He replied, “I never did shit for you to begin with, didn’t you watch the preview? You knew what you were getting yourself into.” FML
Breaking
Today, my mom told me that she had great news: we were going to meet my biological parents. I didn't know I was adopted. FML

You're right, he should've left him in a dumpster.

I feel your pain. I messed up and I'm going to have to give up my little girl the day after she's born next month

Understandable maybe you couldn't hold your son because financial issues or something related. But you should've at least met with him from time to time.

I'm adopted myself, and honestly growing up knowing that you were given away.. Not the greatest feeling tbh

Sometimes its the best thing that person can do in the situation they're in. I mean, be honest... would you rather grow up with a parent who is addicted to something, in an extremely poor way without the means (or possibly the desire) to take care of you, or grow up in a better situation with people who care about you who aren't biologically related? Kids who were put up for adoption can look at the situation two ways: "I was given up" or "I was hand picked by someone who wanted me". It's all in the perspective.

.. I got put up for adoption because my father didn't want to pay child support. Some people are just assholes.

seafoam11, did you have to live your life knowing your parent(s) didn't give a flying **** about you or if you were OK or not?
The_Hitdude 12
#210 Giving your child up for adoption doesn't mean you don't give "a flying ****" about them. There could be other reasons aside from your ignorant assumption. You obviously have never had to, so don't talk about what you don't know.

What I don't know? When I was three my parents literally left me in front of ******* gas station with a note that said they "did not care to have a child". I know what it's like.
The_Hitdude 12
#281 I apologize that you went through that, but you can't paint every parent who has put a child up for adoption with the same proverbial brush. The majority who have made that decision had good intentions for their child, not because they didn't care.

Violence is never the way to solve things, but maybe he was mad that you took two decades to tell him. But I don't know your reasons so I can't judge.

"What did you expect? A hug?" Probably not, darlings, but no one should ever expect being decked in the (assumed) face either, especially since it sounds like the OP HAD to put their child up for adoption for any number of reasons, so that they could be raised in a better environment.

"Make amends" for loving someone enough to let them go when you knew you couldn't give them a better life?!
