Today, I met a really nice couple at a bar. We talked and the conversation eventually drifted towards online dating. I casually commented that hooking up through the internet was sad and pathetic. Turns out they met on Myspace. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was at dinner with my boyfriend and his family. We were talking about relationships, and I commented on how online dating was the dumbest thing ever. His mom and step-dad went on to tell me how they had met through an online dating service. FML
Is this catfishing?
Today, I went on a date with someone I've been talking to online for weeks. Unfortunately, it turns out they'd used old photos and misrepresented themselves, and I didn't find them attractive at all. Even I'm not that desperate. We ended up having an awkward dinner and I couldn't wait for it to be over. FML
Today, I went on a date with a guy I met online. It was going OK, until he started asking me if he should stick with the site until he finds the right person. I guess I know how he feels about me, at least. FML
Today, I made a friend on an online chat. We got along fairly well and even traded Facebook accounts. I found out that the two of us had a lot of very surprising things in common. We were the same age, we were from the same school, and we even had the same boyfriend. FML
Today, I declared I was done with online dating after several disasters. My friend set me up with a friend of her husband's. Turns out he's one of the men who rejected me on the website. He laughed when he saw me and said, "Well, this is awkward" and left. FML
Don't cheat
Today, I finally met the guy I've been getting to know online in person for a date. When we saw each other, we both realized that we had heavily Facetuned our profile pictures. The awkward silence that followed was the longest five minutes of my life. FML
Dating pool hell
Today, I tried instant online video dating for the first time, after not having much luck on other dating sites. The first date was kind of awkward, and "ended" with a kind of fade out and I could hear her chatting with someone else. "Hella awkward." Fair enough. "But was he cute? - No." FML
Today, I finally got the chance to meet this wonderful guy I met on a dating site. She was very excited to see me, too. FML
What are the odds?
Today, I re-joined a popular on-line dating service. I'd first signed up 3 years ago and was matched with a wonderful woman. After about a year, she broke up with me. I was devastated. After two years of trying to win her back, I'd decided it's best just to move on. Guess who they matched me with? FML
Fake news
Today, I went to a coffee shop to meet an online date. I couldn't spot him, so he eventually came up and introduced himself. It seems his on-line picture must have been taken before I was born. I spluttered "This isn't going to work," and promptly scuttled out. FML

One out of eight marriages last year were people who met online. I met my boyfriend online and we've been together for over three years and are now engaged. What's your way of meeting people? Going to bars? I think that's a little more sad and pathetic.

In your defense, I used to think the same thing. Then I went on a date with a guy I met online who seemed like he had some potential. He was by far the biggest douche bag I've ever met in my entire life. I think it fails more often than it works out, but it still works for some.

#29 - That is so awesome!! Personally, in spite of the fact that I have tried a couple online dating sites, I still think it's a bit pathetic. I'll probably still continue to do it because most other ways to try to meet people are typically considered equally pathetic by both myself and a vast majority of people (ie: bar) but as long as you meet the love of your life and he (or she) makes you happy, does it really matter how you met? I really don't see this is an FML or a "you deserved it" because he's simply voicing his own opinion. They disagree with him. They have the right to. That doesn't mean he should feel bad for voicing his opinion. I would probably say something like that and follow it up with, "and knowing how pathetic I think those types of sites are, it's even more pathetic that I voluntarily joined one!" :-)

I agree with #3. Meeting people at bars/clubs is way more pathetic than meeting people online. At least online people have enough courage to make conversation without having to be intoxicated. Plus with all the social networking sites you can see peoples likes/dislikes/interests without having to play the dating game and wasting your time going on pointless dates.

internet dating is for people who can't get a date in the real world. whether it's because they don't have the time or the skills, it's still the truth. end of story.

eh, dont be so quick to judge a situation. you can find love anywhere, and it almost always happens when you arent looking for it. turning your nose up to things always gets you in a bad situation.

They met on Myspace? Don't worry, they probably didn't understand your insult.

I think internet dating, just like dating people you meet at bars, works for some people and not others. As for the FML, don't worry, we've all stuck our feet in our mouths like that at some point in our lives. Unless you see those people frequently, I wouldn't sweat it.

But trolling for sympathy for your stupid comment on the internet, that's for winners, huh?
