Today, I met a really nice couple at a bar. We talked and the conversation eventually drifted towards online dating. I casually commented that hooking up through the internet was sad and pathetic. Turns out they met on Myspace. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I was at dinner with my boyfriend and his family. We were talking about relationships, and I commented on how online dating was the dumbest thing ever. His mom and step-dad went on to tell me how they had met through an online dating service. FML
Is this catfishing?
Today, I went on a date with someone I've been talking to online for weeks. Unfortunately, it turns out they'd used old photos and misrepresented themselves, and I didn't find them attractive at all. Even I'm not that desperate. We ended up having an awkward dinner and I couldn't wait for it to be over. FML
Today, I went on a date with a guy I met online. It was going OK, until he started asking me if he should stick with the site until he finds the right person. I guess I know how he feels about me, at least. FML
Today, I made a friend on an online chat. We got along fairly well and even traded Facebook accounts. I found out that the two of us had a lot of very surprising things in common. We were the same age, we were from the same school, and we even had the same boyfriend. FML
Today, I declared I was done with online dating after several disasters. My friend set me up with a friend of her husband's. Turns out he's one of the men who rejected me on the website. He laughed when he saw me and said, "Well, this is awkward" and left. FML
Don't cheat
Today, I finally met the guy I've been getting to know online in person for a date. When we saw each other, we both realized that we had heavily Facetuned our profile pictures. The awkward silence that followed was the longest five minutes of my life. FML
Dating pool hell
Today, I tried instant online video dating for the first time, after not having much luck on other dating sites. The first date was kind of awkward, and "ended" with a kind of fade out and I could hear her chatting with someone else. "Hella awkward." Fair enough. "But was he cute? - No." FML
Today, I finally got the chance to meet this wonderful guy I met on a dating site. She was very excited to see me, too. FML
What are the odds?
Today, I re-joined a popular on-line dating service. I'd first signed up 3 years ago and was matched with a wonderful woman. After about a year, she broke up with me. I was devastated. After two years of trying to win her back, I'd decided it's best just to move on. Guess who they matched me with? FML
Fake news
Today, I went to a coffee shop to meet an online date. I couldn't spot him, so he eventually came up and introduced himself. It seems his on-line picture must have been taken before I was born. I spluttered "This isn't going to work," and promptly scuttled out. FML

One out of eight marriages last year were people who met online. I met my boyfriend online and we've been together for over three years and are now engaged. What's your way of meeting people? Going to bars? I think that's a little more sad and pathetic.

In your defense, I used to think the same thing. Then I went on a date with a guy I met online who seemed like he had some potential. He was by far the biggest douche bag I've ever met in my entire life. I think it fails more often than it works out, but it still works for some.

I don't think it's sad and pathetic it's just dangerous. 'cause you never know if the person is lying or could be a stalker. But I want to know how they responded. xDDD

Someone you meet at a bar could be the same or worse

The same thing is true of people you meet in bars, like the previous reply states, or anywhere else...

While dating websites are sort of pathetic, I don't see a problem with meeting someone online.

It's only pathetic if it's a long distance internet relationship.

Oh really? How is it pathetic? I've been dating my boyfriend for over a year who I met online, who lives 8 hours away. I didn't plan for it to happen, but if something is meant to be, it'll be. **** you.

I agree with #5. My roommate's ex was a guy she met online. His profile was great, but six months into their relationship he confessed he was actually 5 years older than he said he was, divorced, and had been dishonorably discharged from the military for abandonment. Granted, anyone can lie about themselves when you meet them anyway, but it's certainly easier to lie online. And #3, places exists on the planet besides bars. I met my fiance through a mutual friend who thought we'd be great together. How pathetic is that on your scale?

#3. Exactly. #5. You never know if anyone else you meet is lying or dangerous, either. The chances are just as high. My boyfriend and I met on a dating website (he was looking for a relationship, I was just looking for a random person to talk to). It got to the point where we were talking on the phone and/or video chatting every day (when Uncle Sam didn't need him). We met about 8 months after we first started talking online, and now we've been dating for 8 months. It's great. Personally, I think meeting someone online is better than going to a bar or club to meet people. But the point is, don't judge. Just because someone does something different than you do doesn't mean it's wrong.

#9. No, idiot. The chances are not as high. Incompatible doesn't mean dangerous. =_=

91: You're the idiot (and rude, too, but I digress) if you think that the worst thing that can happen when you meet a random person in a bar, the park, etc is that you'll be "incompatible". Of course the chances are the same... Someone you first meet in a public place has the same potential to be dangerous as someone you first met online. Do you really think criminals and deadbeats only hang out on the internet and don't exist in public?

#8. WTH? She didn't even imply that the only other way to meet people was at a bar.
