Her best friend, who I'm kinda friends with, texted me, confessing that she likes me. Now the first girl won't talk to me for the sake of her best friend, who I'm not interested in. FML
Today, the girl who I had a desperate crush on in high school 25 years ago, and who would never go out with me, told me that she was actually head over heels in love with me, but was so cripplingly shy that she couldn't say yes. She's divorced now. I'm married. FML
Today, through a mutual friend, I met the girl of my dreams. After flirting and exchanging numbers with her, my friend confessed that she's liked me since the day we met. Now the girl of my dreams doesn't want to pursue a relationship with me out of respect for our friend. FML
Today, in the spirit of being helpful, I accidentally convinced the girl I'm secretly in love with to stay with her boyfriend. FML
Today, I finally got up the nerve to ask this really cute girl out I've had a crush on for over eight months. Turns out she isn't a girl. FML
Today, I got all excited because I thought my crush was flirting with me, when in actuality she was taking advantage of me liking her so she and her friends could make fun of my speech impediment. FML
Today, I was gonna tell my crush that I love her, but I found out that she has a fiancé. She kept it secret so I would carry on helping her in her studies, like a fool. She was acting like she liked me, but she never did. Now it seems very obvious. FML
Today, I finally built up the courage to confess my love to the girl of my dreams. She turned me down. When I asked her about all the recent receptive behavior toward me, she replied, "I thought it'd be funny." FML

Here's the skinny from somebody who has "been there, done that", OP. Stop wasting your time trying to make girls make the move on you because if it works, it works great - However, if you get a really shy girl you'll develop far too much of a connection to her with your time invested than she has developed with you. This is ok if the feeling is mutual but if it's not you'll be completely crushed by somebody that shouldn't mean much to you in the first place. Instead, PUT YOURSELF out there and make the move quickly. . .If she turns you down no harm done to you, AND, the added bonus of you not caring so much because you have no time invested. Now, I'm not saying go out there and ask every girl out on the street out just because the word know isn't as devastating as you think but I am saying you can't go out there putting all your time and effort into girls based off silly assumptions.

It's a common tactic for guys to make a girl ask them out, if done right it's a pretty bold move [much more bold than asking outright]. . But in this situation and based on the wording of the FML it just sounds like a kid with no confidence in himself whom is afraid of the word 'no'. . .Somebody who probably wasn't waiting for the girl to ask him out but waiting for a 100% reaffirmation that she wanted to be asked out in order to save himself embarrassment, look like the hero that brought the shy girl "out of her shell" and allow him to do the manly thing of asking her out. . All in one day!
