Today, I made a typo in a line of code, bringing the company website down. Our admin was already pissed about having to work over Christmas, and he started yelling at me and ended up punching my supervisor when he got between us. Pretty sure my screw up indirectly got the poor guy fired. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste

Today, at work, my computer started acting up. I told my boss I could fix it, but he told me to call the IT department instead. Neither the IT technician or his supervisor could figure it out, so I showed them what was wrong and how to fix it. I was promptly fired for wasting 2 hours of company time. FML
Today, my boss fired me because I corrected him after he misspoke during a meeting. FML
The buck stops here
Today, my boss threw me out of her office during a conference call for daring to correct her. The client fired the company because she subsequently got all the information on the call wrong, and plainly had no idea what was going on. From all the screaming, this is now all my fault. FML
Broadcast
Today, I had to call a coworker to the office via the store intercom. The damn thing didn't turn off properly and everyone heard me say, "I hate that asshole. Just be where your dumb ass should be." I realized my mistake a few seconds before my manager stormed in and threatened to fire me. FML
Are you doing OK?
Today, I got a heads-up that my boss suffered a death in the family, but was coming into work anyway. I thought he'd be depressed, but it seems he deals with grief with anger instead. I found that out when he yelled at me, threatening to rip my spine out my ass over a typo I made in a report. FML
Today, my lazy bastard of a co-worker punched me straight in the jaw because he didn't get the promotion I did. Being his new manager, I fired him. A few hours later, I was fired for "abusing" my power. FML
Today, my boss reprimanded me for a huge screw-up that he was responsible for. FML
Today, I was happy because my co-worker was almost about to get fired due to his lazy habits. It was all going so well. Then I accidentally put my biggest sale yet under his name. FML
Today, at work, I stepped out for a few minutes to use the bathroom. Shortly after returning, I found out the hard way that one of my coworkers had used my computer to send a profanity-filled email to our boss, calling him an asshole and telling him to go fuck himself. I'm now jobless. FML
Today, my boss sent me a text message saying, "You're fired. Merry Christmas!" FML

It's not your fault that he reacted so strongly and punched a guy.

I really don't see that as your fault that the guy over reacted and punched a superior

The fact he can't hold his temper got him fired. Not your screw up

No fucko there needed to control his temper. I get pissed all the time at work but I haven't slugged anyone.

it's not your fault the man could not control himself and resorted to violence

You're writing the code and taking shit from an admin? That doesn't seem right. Down the server on purpose and let him struggle to get it back up. Merry Christmas ^
dabaerju 23
Uh, let who struggle? The admin already got fired. And besides, do you want OP to get fired, too?

Anger leads to the dark side of the force. Punching someone in your anger, also leads to getting fired.

What company would push changes to production environment without testing the code first? YDI tbh

"You deserve to feel guilty for someone else's temper because of your company policies." I translated that.

not all companies, Especially small ones, treat their website like production code, even though they probably should.

It probably was tested, it sounds like op just made a typo, or skipped a line. not hard to do.

That's why you put all the changes you want to make into a shell script, and run that. In other words: don't EVER make the changes manually on a production system.
ViRepz 28
lol, because shell scripts are bullet proof?

I have found myself in similar situations like this, and its feels very guilty when someone takes a stand for you. Your supervisor is a gem of a person and you should apologise to him with all your heart. So you made a mistake, its natural!
swanheart 35
Why should op apologise to the supervisor? Op didn't punch him... Op is not responsible for the admin guys total overreaction.

He got himself fired, OP. Nothing in an office is worth punching someone.

You didn't cause it. He behaved like an immature brat. He deserves to be fired at the very least.

That sucks, man, but you made an honest mistake, it happens to the best of us. Massive respect for being empathetic, just don't let it get you down.
