Today, I learned that chivalry truly is dead when a seemingly fit man pushed me into a door to get a seat on the train before me. My leg is in a cast. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Asshat
Today, I got on the subway with a broken leg. A kind woman stood up and offered me her seat. Before I could sit down, a guy shoved past me and took it for himself. The woman and I pointed out my cast and crutches, and asked him to give up the seat. He responded by flipping us off. FML
Today, I held a door open for my boyfriend and jokingly said, "Chivalry is dead?" He responded with, "Who's chivalry?" FML
Today, on my way to school, I was shouted at by an obnoxious businessman for sitting down on the train when a "full fare paying passenger" was standing. I would normally have given him the seat straight away, except I have a broken leg. I showed him my leg and crutches. He still made me get up. FML
Today, I was brutally run over by a man in a wheelchair. FML
Today, a man slapped me in the face with his newspaper because I didn't get out of his way fast enough at the train station. I guess he didn't notice I was on crutches. FML
Today, I went out on a date with a girl for the first time. I opened her car door for her and then slammed her leg in it upon closing. She will be in a cast for 6 weeks. FML
Today, I was told off for not holding the door open for a woman behind me at work. Yesterday I was informed that chivalry is offensive to women, as it implies that they are not equal to men. I can't win. FML
Today, I had to cut short my New Year's resolution of going to the gym daily, when the meathead next to me dropped some heavy weights, which bounced and landed on my foot. I'm sitting at home in a cast. FML
Today, I ran for the train that was about to leave. I tried to hold the doors open with my leg and got stuck. The conductor just yelled out how unbelievable and ridiculous I was and waited 2 minutes to finally release me. Everyone was laughing at me. FML
Broke
Today, while sitting in a handicapped seat on the bus, an old man angrily approached me and chewed me out in front of everyone for not leaving the seat empty for "those who actually need it." Then he stormed off the bus, stepping heavily on my broken foot. FML

It has nothing to do with chivalry. That's just flat out jerk behavior. You don't go pushing strangers around. I would've held the door for you, OP. I hold doors open for both men and women just as a sign of respect to all people.

chivalry is for knights. if he wasn't dressed in a suit of armor you shouldn't have been expecting much. always check for a codpiece.

Hm. I'm guessing this is somewhere from either coast. There are rude people everywhere, even here in podunk, Midwest; but I've always had the impression that people from the east and west are total douchers.

Midwest is closer to the east, yeah?

Is that a statement, or a question? I was referring specifically to people who live in coastal states, who seem to carry a higher sense of entitlement, thinking and acting as though they are better than everyone else simply because they live a so-called "privileged" lifestyle. Or it must be all that durned trash-tv.

#142 Not everyone in the coastal states is like that. I really hope that you're joking.

I'm from the Midwest and now live on the East Coast (in one of those supposedly super rude big cities). There are rude people everywhere, but not once has some stranger come to my door and told me I'm going to hell here on the East Coast. I'd rather have people be a bit rude in public than tell me how to live my life at my own home.

Chivalry: the news of my death has been greatly exaggerated.
