Today, I heard two of my students having a conversation. One asked what state Arizona was in, and the other replied Canada. I teach sixth grade social studies and they weren't joking. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Seniors!
Today, in the senior class I teach, I asked my students who had traveled outside of the country, excluding Canada and Mexico. One student raised his hand and proudly stated, "Arizona". He wants to be a doctor. FML
Today, while teaching my history class, a girl asked me where North America was. She lives in North America. FML
Today, I was giving an anti-drugs speech to a group of ninth graders. I got onto the topic of trafficking from problem countries and asked a student to point out Mexico City on a map. He hesitated a few seconds before pointing at Canada. What the hell has the education system come to? FML
Geography lessons
Today, some people in my class here in New Zealand found out that I'm from Canada, then spent the rest of the period asking if I had a pet moose and whether or not I lived in an igloo. They were completely genuine questions. FML
Today, I actually had to explain to two of my friends that neither Alaska nor Nebraska are in Canada. I think I need new friends. FML
Today, I got a call from an angry parent telling me that I'm teaching her son and the other children in the class "wrong philosophies". This was all because I explained to the class that Michigan is divided into two parts. FML
Today, I heard a teenage boy ask his friend, "So, is it, like, November in Australia too?" This is the future of America. FML
Today, during a lecture, my teacher jokingly talked about the time he was best buds with George Washington. Another student then asked, "Really? You knew him?" I'm in an advanced placement U.S. history class. FML
Today, my best friend called me a moron for disputing her belief that Canada is in South America. FML
Oh the times, they are a-changin'
Today, as two of my students walked into my classroom, I said, "Hi, ladies". One of them screamed at me: "Did you just assume my gender?!" FML

OP fails as a teacher lol

If this were the end of the school year, you'd be a lousy teacher, but since it is the start, you see the defective feedstock you have to work with. Be glad you are not the biology teacher trying to teach those morons about evolution.

Or reproduction.
TaylorTotsYumm 10
I second that.
TaylorTotsYumm 10
No you don't.
perdix 31
Actually, SMary, the morons seem to know how to reproduce very well. Of course, if you are talking about trying to teach them enough about reproduction so they can AVOID teenage pregnancies, I agree that you are going to have a hard time with that. There are girls that are so dumb they believe the guys when they say that they can't get pregnant if they have sex while he has his socks on.

I thought we discussed this. SMary sounds too much like smegma. Calling me Mary is fine. >.> I knew a girl who honestly thought you could throw a newborn baby in the ocean with the umbilical cord attached and it because a mermaid forever. She also thought Tokyo was a country.

Ah, "smegma"... Now there's a word I haven't heard in a long time. How pleasant.

Did you correct them? You need to be teaching these kiddos a little better.

I thought Arizona was a state in itself?
aardvarkish 17
That would make it "auto-in situ". I've never heard it described that way, but there's a first time for everything.
Hevzy 0
huh? all I know is I did a project on a state for school and I did Arizona and got full marks???
aardvarkish 17
You did!!!! That's awesome??? How did you do in grammar! I'm sure you made quite the grade?

do you work with the biology teacher who had the kid asking if a rock was alive? now the real fun begins when they meet each other and ask you and your cohort if rocks in arizona are alive and where those rocks are in canada
WiseGuy79 14
Anyone could make that mistake about Canada, since it's all tucked away down there lol
KrazzyNV 0
@40 I can't tell if you're trying to be sarcastic or not, but its technically up there. since it's to the north... And just correct them on it. They have to learn somehow, and tell them that Canada has provinces, not states.

Lol It was a line from the simpsons...
