Today, I heard a loud crashing noise. I ran into the kitchen to see what it was. My cat had knocked over my fish bowl and had my Beta in her mouth. After scolding her and rescuing it, I decided to clean its bowl. When I went to dump some of the water in the sink, my fish went down the drain. FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, as I was washing my boyfriend's fishbowl, the fish did a Nemo and made an unholy leap down the drain. My immediate impulse was to flip the switch. Our kitchen now smells like mutilated fish and my boyfriend won't speak to me. FML
Today, I was draining the water from my fishbowl out into the kitchen sink. The fish was still in it and decided to go with the flow, literally, right into the garburator. I was too scared to stick my hand down there to save it; instead I panicked and turned the garburator on. FML
Today, I bought a fish. I put the tank on top of the fridge so my cat wouldn't get at it. I'd forgotten to buy some things for its tank, so I quickly ran out to get them. When I got home, I saw the tank destroyed on the floor, and my cat devouring my fish. I had the fish for less than an hour. FML
Today, I bought a new Siamese Fighting Fish. I was so happy with my new fish so I bought him an expensive lovely bowl, some weeds, and a toy for the bowl. I left the room to get the fish food. When I returned, the fish was gone, and the cat was sitting on the table. FML
Today, I spent almost two hours cleaning my fish tank, only to find out that my cat had secretly eaten all of my fish while I was cleaning the tank. FML
Today, I bought a new goldfish. While leaving my fish on my balcony to go get fish food, I hear a loud squawk and splash, I race outside to see a bird flying off with my fish. FML
Today, I was woken up by my phone alarm blaring at full volume. I grabbed it to hit snooze, but in my half-asleep state, I accidentally threw it across the room. It hit the wall, bounced off, and landed in my fish tank. My fish is fine. My phone is not. FML
Today, I bought a fish bowl and a fish for $15. I brought him home and sat him on my desk. Everything was going well until the shelf gave out and his bowl slid off of the shelf... onto my $2,000 computer. The computer is fried and is not covered by the insurance, the fish is fine. FML
Today, my cat fell into the toilet, and I had to save him. I now have a soggy cat and scratched arms. FML
Today, I decided to treat myself to a relaxing bubble bath. Mid-soak, I heard a loud crash and realized my cat had knocked over a shelf, sending shampoo bottles and bath salts tumbling into the water. Now I'm stuck cleaning up a soapy mess instead of enjoying my spa time. FML

Why would you even scold your cat for being a cat? Maybe something to remember: cat + fish = fishymurder. Same goes with birds and mice... Still sucks for the fish though.

First of all, you shouldn't have a betta in a bowl..it needs warm water and a filter. Second, you don't clean a fish tank by dumping the water out! You are suppoed to changed only about 20% of the water every week. Your poor betta would probbaly had died anyway, considering you don't seem to know anything about fish keeping. YDI.

They do need warm water - generally the temp your house is at (76) is fine, so you don't need a heater. Why do you think they need a filter? They breathe air, it's not like the water has to be highly oxygenated. Change 100% of the water once a week and you'll avoid cycling, too.

Bettas do not just breathe air; though they do possess a labyrinth organ, they also have gills. As it is obvious that the OP does not know how to change water in a fish bowl, an aquarium with a filter, even a weak one, would be best. And why the hell would you do a 100% water change? You do realize that highly beneficial bacteria live in the water, don't you? An aseptic tank is an extremely unhealthy one.
