Today, I had my first job interview since graduating from university. The person who interviewed me informed me that not using my degree after two years practically makes it null and void. I guess instead of being a financial advisor at the company, I could always be a janitor there. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
The candidate
Today, I had my first job interview in months. The guy chuckled mockingly at my master's degree in philosophy and wound up admitting that he had no idea why I'd even been selected to be interviewed. FML
Today, I found out that the money I spent on a very specific degree was wasted, because apparently, I don't qualify for a job at the place that told me I had to have that degree. FML
Today, I happily went to an interview after job searching for months. I learned a large part of my job would be cleaning the toilets. Every. Single. Hour. I used to lecture at a university until budget cuts happened. FML
Today, I went on my 56th job interview since graduating from college 3 months ago. I am 31 years old and I spent 11 years in college. I only graduated with a Bachelor's Degree after all those years, but I am still not qualified for anything due to how long it took me to complete my degree. FML
Today, I received a rejection letter from a company I interviewed with three weeks ago. They didn't mention giving my $200 portfolio back. Guess I'll keep using my 4-year degree to wait tables. FML
Recruitment hell
Today, I had a job interview and the interviewer assumed that since I'm short, I wouldn't be able to take the garbage out. Yesterday I had another interviewer call me a loser for being a stay-at-home mom. I'm gonna be unemployed forever it seems. FML
Today, I had my last assessment for my university degree in the form of an interview at 11am. Without doing this interview, I can't graduate. The interviewer was a no show. FML
Today, I was unsuccessful in getting a job at a supermarket. The same supermarket I used to work at. I now have a degree but can't even get a job at a place I used to work. FML
Today, after spending 8 months and $11,000 on school, I was denied a job in my chosen career field. They told me they decided to go with someone with more experience. So who got the job? One of my classmates. This is her first job. EVER. FML
Not a good sign
Today, I went to my first job interview. I didn't think I was doing too badly, until the interviewer said, "Wait a second, you're in high school?" I explained that the guy who'd called me had said that this wouldn't be a problem. I then watched as my interviewer left his desk to "deal" with him. FML

That can't be the case everywhere, you just need to find a company that will give you a chance and value your work. Good luck OP!

Sounds more like he's just being a dick and using that as an excuse to not hire you.

Why did they interview you?

So my four year degree from 1999 is beyond useless and I should just rollover and die?

I'm going to throw the bullshit flag on that one...I graduated with a BA degree and 2 years later left for the U.S.Navy. It's still valid no matter what you're doing or how much time has passed. Your interviewer don't know shit.

@35 "Practically" makes very little difference when the interviewer still uses it as an excuse not to hire you. The interviewer was implying that Op can't get a job because their degree is useless now. You and I know that that's absurd, and #33 is right to call bullshit.

Isn't that being bias?

Don't get discouraged by short-sighted nitwits like that guy...that piece of paper will always be a testament to your ability to stick with something through completion. What you LEARNED while earning the degree will be the foundation for your future, so it will certainly maintain its value. Go get em.

I call BS on that. You're interviewer is lying to you & is a jerk.

How did you spend your last 2 years after graduation? I hope you did something meaningful then.
