Today, I had my first job interview since graduating from university. The person who interviewed me informed me that not using my degree after two years practically makes it null and void. I guess instead of being a financial advisor at the company, I could always be a janitor there. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
The candidate
Today, I had my first job interview in months. The guy chuckled mockingly at my master's degree in philosophy and wound up admitting that he had no idea why I'd even been selected to be interviewed. FML
Today, I found out that the money I spent on a very specific degree was wasted, because apparently, I don't qualify for a job at the place that told me I had to have that degree. FML
Today, I happily went to an interview after job searching for months. I learned a large part of my job would be cleaning the toilets. Every. Single. Hour. I used to lecture at a university until budget cuts happened. FML
Today, I went on my 56th job interview since graduating from college 3 months ago. I am 31 years old and I spent 11 years in college. I only graduated with a Bachelor's Degree after all those years, but I am still not qualified for anything due to how long it took me to complete my degree. FML
Today, I received a rejection letter from a company I interviewed with three weeks ago. They didn't mention giving my $200 portfolio back. Guess I'll keep using my 4-year degree to wait tables. FML
Recruitment hell
Today, I had a job interview and the interviewer assumed that since I'm short, I wouldn't be able to take the garbage out. Yesterday I had another interviewer call me a loser for being a stay-at-home mom. I'm gonna be unemployed forever it seems. FML
Today, I had my last assessment for my university degree in the form of an interview at 11am. Without doing this interview, I can't graduate. The interviewer was a no show. FML
Today, I was unsuccessful in getting a job at a supermarket. The same supermarket I used to work at. I now have a degree but can't even get a job at a place I used to work. FML
Today, after spending 8 months and $11,000 on school, I was denied a job in my chosen career field. They told me they decided to go with someone with more experience. So who got the job? One of my classmates. This is her first job. EVER. FML
Not a good sign
Today, I went to my first job interview. I didn't think I was doing too badly, until the interviewer said, "Wait a second, you're in high school?" I explained that the guy who'd called me had said that this wouldn't be a problem. I then watched as my interviewer left his desk to "deal" with him. FML

That can't be the case everywhere, you just need to find a company that will give you a chance and value your work. Good luck OP!

I'm getting real scared that this might happen to me. I just want a decent job after college and make good money. sucks OP.

It depends - I know for my degree we are told if we don't use our qualification for two years we get deregistered because we can't prove we've been keeping our skills and knowledge up to date. I know op is applying to be a financial adviser so it might be different for them but that's what came to mind when I read what the interviewer said and maybe that's what he meant?

I agree with #1. Don't give up. Keep applying. If they want you, they can give you the appropriate training as well. Don't count yourself out. Go get em! :)

Certifications might need to be updated, but a college degree should never become void.

A degree is not a promise of employment. Get experience in your chosen field of study. Employers want experience as well as qualifications.

Hard to do that when a job in your field won't hire because you have no experience, so you end up not getting any.

It's the vicious circle of employment, can't get a job without experience but can't get experience without a job. Had to deal with that for three years once before someone gave me a go.

volunteer somewhere on that field.

#63, that's exactly what I was told in my first few interviews, I should have volunteered my services whilst studying, that way I would have had the qualifications as well as 3 years experience. Only need to volunteer a few hours a week but it looks good on the resume'.

There will be a company that doesn't see it that way. Keep trying Op.

That's when you say "your loss". Plenty of people don't go that route OP!

Well I'd take the janitor job if I were you, you haven't worked in two years. Also next interview you could say you really know your shit.

Not using their degree is not the same as not having a job!

True, my bad. I inferred it from the no interviews since graduating university two years ago. He could be working at the job he had while attending. (Or like I did whoring your tech skills for tacos and booze and taking some time off before jumping into a career)

Do not let anyone determine your worth. Jobs are not so easy to come by OP but remember that you successfully completed your university classes. That means that you are intelligent and capable. Keep believing in yourself and putting yourself out there. You will get a suitable job.

Two years don't make it null and void ..you need to boost your morale that's all.

Maybe to that company it is, but technically you have your degree for your whole life, maybe you'll be abut rusty but I'm sure someone will want to hire you.

Well, you're right about the degree being always valid, but you can't keep trading off on that. Do you think you still remember your education in ten years? I don't, I remember what I used in my line of work, but I don't think I remember what I learned.

It's just like the idea of a arts degree, only good as toilet paper

Some certificates & degrees need an annual registration fee to be valid.
