Today, I had a piano audition for a musical. Afterwards, the judge asked if I had any experience with percussion, and then told me she was considering me for a percussion part. I guess my piano audition really was THAT bad. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Pure entertainment
Today, I auditioned for a part in a play. I've been practicing for months, and was very excited. After I'd finished singing, the director whispered something to the other judges, and they all laughed. Hard. So much for the lead role. FML
Is that a pass then?
Today, I had a piano exam, for which I'd worked hard. I went in, and the examiner asked me to play some scales. I was so nervous, I played 3 octaves and then realised I'd ran out of space. I might have then said, "FUCK!" really loudly… and she heard. FML
Feeling a light 4 on this one
Today, I started recording my piano exam pieces to submit, and I was proud at my interpretation that I spent time trying to make it sound good. That was until my tutor walked in and said I had "shit rhythm and ass intonation." My mom was there. FML
Pianissimo
Today, I was at work as a musician, sitting on a piano bench. Suddenly, I found myself at eye-level with the piano, dumped on the floor by the broken bench, with my legs splayed out. I felt like I picked the wrong day to wear a skirt to work - but the audience members all disagreed. FML
Today, at school, I was asked to play a complex piano piece in front of my class, teachers and guests. I nailed it, but what stood out most for everyone was how I apparently looked like I was being possessed while performing. FML
Today, I had a music duet in front of a crowd and 3 judges. I play tuba and my partner plays the saxophone. He burst out laughing in the middle of it because one note that I played sounded like a fart. FML
Today, my piano teacher told me that she "forgot" to inform me that she volunteered me to play a 5-page song in a recital in front of 300 people that's happening next week. FML
Inappropriate Billy Joel
Today, I performed a piano piece at a school play. Everything went well until I got up and accidentally smashed my shin against one of the piano legs. Before I could bite my tongue, I'd already yelled "Fucking hell!" in front of about 50 second graders. FML
Today, I was at a local talent show and during a piano performance I had to go to the bathroom. I sang along in the bathroom but was unaware how loud I was until I walked out and everyone started applauding me while the pianist was still playing. FML
Today, I auditioned for a role in ballet. My stomach was in pain and as I ran to be lifted into the air by my partner, I let out a huge fart. The auditorium was dead silent. FML

You probably weren't bad. Honestly, she may have found someone a little bit better, but I'm not saying you did a bad job. I think that when auditions are held they have to find the absolute best. But I think it's really great that she offered you another part.

She might see some talent in you that you don't even know about. You never know where it can take you OP.

Well... maybe your rhythm was really good? Sorry OP, I don't understand what was going through her head. Good luck on percussion!

Last time I checked a piano is considered a percussion instrument since it needs "hammers" to hit the strings to make sounds vibrate if it didn't it would be a harp

Don't know why you got down-voted. I thought the same thing when I first read it. "Isn't that a good thing...?"

Concert pianist here: piano is indeed a percussion instrument and anyone down voting you is an idiot.
TheMathMajor 26
Technically because the hammers strike the strings inside the piano, it could be considered a percussion instrument. But because the pianist doesn't strike the keys with a hammer, and because electronic keyboards don't have hammers at all, piano is usually classified as its own thing separate from percussion.

I was under the impression a piano is a string instrument.

Nope, it's classified as a percussion instrument. The harpsichord, which looks like a piano, that's a string instrument since it's strings are plucked.

I was about to say the same thing

MathMajor, there is a direct mechanical connection between a pianist's finger and the string the hammer strikes. It's one of the reasons piano is such a versatile and difficult instrument to master. Verily, one never truly masters it.

#14, that's what I thought too. Then my elementary school music teacher turned it into a learning experience by having all of us gather around her piano to watch the hammers work.

I came to say the same thing. If she's been bad she wouldn't have gotten any part, but a lot of people play piano, and if one was better, this is what I'd expect.

Probably weren't bad, because there are the different keyboards that have the exact same notes as a piano.

Uhh... What?

What he's trying to describe is the various mallet instruments included in percussion. Xylophone, vibraphone, bells, and marimba have the same "keyboard" layout as a piano except that you use mallets instead of your fingers.

I'm with you, #13. I was totally confused when I read the same comment. I'm glad it's not just me.

At least you've got rhythm, so all is not lost.

Can someone explain to me what a percussion is?
TheMathMajor 26
Any instrument that you play by striking it with something. So drums, the triangle, xylophone, bells, and the tambourine are examples.
MamaChey 24
A percussion is a musical instrument played by striking something, like drums, xylophone, cymbals, etc.
Lalala579121 28
Also pianos. Just figured I'd point that out.

U no piano is a percussion instrument

Maybe you get to play a keyboard instrument!
