Today, my piano teacher told me that she "forgot" to inform me that she volunteered me to play a 5-page song in a recital in front of 300 people that's happening next week. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I was at a piano lesson playing a song I had worked very hard to make perfect. Halfway through, my teacher abruptly stops me and asks, "Did you notice that I rearranged the furniture?" FML
Today, I was teaching a ten year old how to play piano. Halfway through the lesson, she made a minor mistake, which, trying to be a good tutor, I corrected her. She smiled up at me, paused, then slammed the key cover down onto my fingers. FML
Today, I had a piano exam, for which I'd worked hard. I went in, and the examiner asked me to play some scales. I was so nervous, I played 3 octaves and then realised I'd ran out of space. I might have then said, "FUCK!" really loudly… and she heard. FML
Today, I was playing piano for a wedding rehearsal. Bored, I decided to pass the time playing through a book of music I found in the piano bench. Some time later the bride turned to me and screamed at me to stop. I had turned the page and had begun to play "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off." FML
Today, after I'd told this girl I’m seeing that I play piano to impress her, it turns out her father is a pianist and has a grand piano in their house. Tonight, I’m supposed to go to her place to play her my "favorite piece." FML
Today, I was a guest performer for a school orchestra concert a grade above mine. When they called my name, I didn’t hear them, so when they started the song hundreds of people watched me run on stage. FML
Today, I had a test in orchestra class, which I'd practiced over 30 hours for. After I played my part, which I thought I did very well, my teacher asked how long I'd practiced. Trying to show off, I said, "Oh, just 30 minutes." My teacher said, "It shows; that was terrible." She was serious. FML
Today, I performed a piano piece at a school play. Everything went well until I got up and accidentally smashed my shin against one of the piano legs. Before I could bite my tongue, I'd already yelled "Fucking hell!" in front of about 50 second graders. FML
Today, I was the first to sign up to play the national anthem for my school, at one of my volleyball games. My teacher told me she would bring my sheet music. She didn’t. So I just sat there, awkwardly, not playing my cello. FML
Today, my piano teacher complimented my song, calling it great. I was proud and thanked him, then realized he was being sarcastic. FML

A recital for a music school in front of 300 people is small OP. And five pages of grand staff music is essentially 2 1/2 pages. Try 4 pages of single staff music at a publicly presented Canadian Premier of a famous composer's piece in a sold out concert hall seating 1000+. Please OP, grow a pair and play the damn concert. If you mess up then so be it. Music is a human creation and therefore cannot be perfect all the time.

Well, you can. I mean, from experience, if this person is as good as their teacher seems to think, it's not that hard to learn 5 pages. If you don't have to memorize, it's a piece of cake. Hell, I learned a 200 page musical in a week and a half and I'm only slightly above mediocre. Memorizing.. well, look for patterns. 5 pages, even if it's Bach or Rachmaninoff are not that bad.

Memorizing the notes is different than memorizing the muscle memory, of course. That takes time even with the music. But it certainly can be done! :)

No he shouldn't. It's as #6 said, he obviously has the talent. I learned a four page piece on the piano in a weekend. This is totally doable.
