Today, I got the feeling that my phone smelt of cigarettes and B.O. I smelt it, realised that it was my hands that smelt, then got confused and thought maybe it was my nose piercing that smelt. I then realised my psychology class was watching me trying to smell my own nose. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I went to the mall with some friends. We all kept smelling this god awful B.O. smell and had no idea where it was coming from. On the car ride home, we all figured out it was actually me. FML
Today, I was walking into class when the guy i like walked in and said "Gross it smells like grandma in here. What, did someone bathe in their perfume today?" I was the only girl in the room and I just bought new perfume. I thought I smelled good, apparently I didn't. FML
Today, I was in class and I smelled what I thought was month-old trash coming from a student in front of me. I politely ignored the smell, only to realize a few hours later that the persistent smell wasn't coming from every student in my university, but was from my shoes. FML
Assumptions
Today, while in class, I noticed that someone had really bad B.O. I was seated next to an extremely ill-mannered girl, so I figured it was her, and thought to myself that if it happened again, I'd tell her off. Once I got home and took off my jacket, I realized it was me. I forgot to put on deodorant. FML
Today, I was running around the track at school PE with a lot of other students. I noticed a guy who smelled really bad and I thought to myself how disgusting that was and I felt bad for him. Later, I was changing and caught a whiff of my shirt. It wasn't him who was smelly. FML
Good smell
Today, while going to the bathroom, I noticed a smell lingering. It smelled good so I kept sniffing the air. And then it hit me. My poop! My poop smelled good and I'd been sniffing and enjoying it. FML
Today, out of habit, after scratching my balls, I then smelled my hand. It was at that moment I realized most of my gym was staring at me. FML
Flavor of the month
Today, I was doing the laundry but couldn't tell if one basket contained dirty clothes or clean clothes. I put my head down into the basket and took a whiff to check, and smelled something strong. I looked down and noticed I had shoved my nose into my mother's dirty panties and inhaled deeply. FML
Today, I was holding my son and smelled poop so I checked his diaper, but there was nothing there. Then I realized it was my breath. FML
Hyperviolence
Today, I was at a restaurant waiting for a table. Some lady walked by, smelling like BO and patchouli oil. I attempted to cover my nose with my sweatshirt, but I thumped a small girl in the process. FML

I don't get how smelling your own nose can be noticeable. All you have to do is breathe.

Sometimes a cigarette is just a cigarette.

The true question is, Is the nose really there? And if there was no nose to smell the stench would it actually smell?

not philosophy .. psychology

Sorry, make the nose lie down on the couch and ask it how it's feeling after being subjected to such an odor numerous times?

Your psychology class, or the psychology class you're appearing in as a live specimen?

Smelled. Smelt doesn't mean what you think it means. Or maybe I should just invest in a damn dictionary.

It does in Australian English.

Oh god, yet another child giving the US a bad, ignorant name.

Smelt is what you do to metal to turn it to liquid, although you can hardly expect someone who tries to smell things in class to be able to spell.

Yes yes, we all know "smelt" is a weird way of saying "smelled" and can easily confuse the average american. You just have to accept that other countries may not speak the same english as us, sometimes because of their accent. (ex. Colour)

Smelt! Smelt! Smelt!

No actually it is not.

Is the use of "smelt" instead of "smelled" here bugging anyone else? I know technically "smelt" is okay but it's still bothering me :P

Yep, it's bothering me too. >.<

Sigh. OP is from Australia. In Australian, British, South African and other kinds of English, the past tense of "smell" is "smelt", just like the past tense of "spell" is "spelt" and the past tense of "learn" is "learnt". So technically, "smelt" is correct by majority. What really bothers me is stupid people.
StoryOfTheYear 15
What bothers me is how OP managed to smelt their phone with their bare hands. Usually it requires extreme amounts of heat. Maybe the Australians have stumbled upon cold fusion?

Fading away - summed it up pretty good!

37-Not being familiar with the dialects of foreign countries doesn't mean a person is stupid. 23 admitted knowing it was technically correct. She's simply stating that, because "smelt" is more commonly used with a different meaning here, it's confusing to some of us. Even the U.S. has so many different dialects I could never be familiar with them all. Is everyone who isn't stupid supposed to know everything about every culture in the world?
