Today, I got home from working abroad for eight months and opened my post. I'm being taken to court over three parking tickets my mom didn't tell me she'd gotten using my car. If we lose, my credit score is affected for six years. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Fake plates
Today, I received a traffic ticket by mail, presumably for speeding. Not a big deal, if my car hadn't been totalled three months ago. My driver's license is expired, too. FML
Today, I went to contest a parking ticket in court. I came out 3 hours later, all charges clear, to a new parking ticket on my windshield, for the same amount I just got cleared. FML
Today, I got a parking ticket in the mail. I don't have a car. FML
Fight!
Today, I got a call from the county’s courthouse where I used to live saying I was being sued for fraud and expected in court to defend myself. Apparently, my ex took a loan out in my name and now I get to pay $2300 worth of legal fees and restitution to this loan company. FML
Today, I found out my mother drives my car. I was okay with it; I don't use it all the time and she's my mother. However, I was not okay with the multiple speeding tickets that came through in the post. "You're the registered keeper, so why should I pay?" FML
Today, I let my dad borrow my car. I found out a few hours later that he has had a suspended license for three years. How did I find out? He got pulled over and arrested. My car was also impounded. I'm a college student barely making it as it is. Guess who can't afford the impound fees? FML
Thanks, "Mom"
Today, I received a call from a collection agency. Since I had no clue, I was ready to file a police report for stolen identity. I then called my mom only to find out she has been opening new credit cards with my information for 3 years and not paying them. My credit is ruined and I'm only 21. FML
Today, I found out my identity was stolen. The person got credit cards in my name and didn't pay the bills, which has ruined my near perfect credit. The worst part about all of this is that I can't turn the person in. It's my mom, and sending her to jail wouldn't really work out for anyone. FML
It never rains, it pours
Today, I got a speeding ticket in the mail, at the same time as my car was getting towed. FML
Today, my car got a wheel lock because I had 5 tickets. Three of those tickets dated back to 2006. I got my car and license in 2008. FML

If you worked abroad, you should have lots and lots of documents to prove you weren't in the country to have parked wrong and have a good reason why you couldn't dispute the tickets before. Should be an easy proof. Good look with this!

Why didn't you take your keys with you? Or store the car with no fluids and no wheels on blocks if you were gone that long. Take documentation that you weren't even in the country, and claim the car was stolen so you weren't responsible for a stolen car's actions.

Why lie? That only causes problems, possibly up to insurance fraud. I wouldn't want to try explaining how the car was stolen but now is back without any help.

Sinshine, it wouldn't actually be lying. If the mother doesn't own some portion of the car, each time she drove it, she was in fact committing car theft. It doesn't stop being a crime just because the thief brings it back. If OP lives somewhere that it's a crime to drive without a valid insurance plan, and the mother wasn't on OP's plan as a driver of that vehicle, that's another crime.

First she stole money from a disabled person, and now she's hiding parking tickets. Think we got a nomination for "Mom of the Year" award!

It's a good time to report your car stolen.

They were your mum’s tickets. SHE needs to take responsibility. If anyone’s credit rating is going to take a hit, it should be hers.

Your going to have to prove that you were overseas and most likely have to take a plea deal ( not sure if it's called something different for traffic tickets). And just pay it. Then your going to have to make your mom pay you back or take her to court. Either way you can't let you mom use your car anymore

Unless OP's mother has partial ownership of the car, and also is on OP's insurance plan or has the car on her insurance plan, if they can prove that they weren't in the country, they don't have to pay the fee. If they weren't in the country to drive it, they obviously didn't commit the driving violations, and thus shouldn't be able to be charged. If the mother doesn't have any ownership of the car, each time she drove it, she was in fact committing car theft. Given that I believe this same poster mentioned the mother stealing several thousand dollars from one of her own children, in OP's shoes, I wouldn't just prove I was out of the country, but also inform the judge that the incidents cited occurred during times that the car had been stolen. For a person as shitty as the mother is, there really isn't anything to lose by getting her arrested.
