Today, I found out that I was held back in preschool because of some developmental issues. My parents didn't think it was important enough to mention it to me. Why hadn't I figured it out? They also lied to me about how old I was. FML
Today, I found out why the parents whose children I babysit use me so often and on such short notice. It's not because they have abrupt nights out; it's because their kids hate me, and me being around is their way of punishing them. FML
Today, I overheard my parents arguing over who had to tell me that I'm adopted. FML
Today, I found out my mom had been telling everyone how independent I was and just wanted to be left alone. I was homeless when I graduated valedictorian from high school and wondering why no one would let me stay with them, even when it was snowing. Now I know. FML
Today, I found out the man I have been dating is my son’s principal. I found out by having to pick my suspended son up from school. FML
Today, I found out why my parents forgot my birthday. Facebook didn't remind them. FML
Today, I found out that 20 years ago, when my friends would call to talk to me after I started being homeschooled, my parents told them we were moving. We never moved. I could never understand why all of my friends stopped talking to me. FML
Today, I found out that the only reason my parents have been letting me hang out with my friends so late is so they can search my room for drugs. FML
Today, I found out that the high school program that I was forced into, which kept me in school until I turned 21, was caused by my mom. She put me in the program without telling me and when I first learned about it, she pretended not to know anything so I wouldn't be mad at her. That was 10 years ago. FML
Today, I found out why I haven't been getting my bank statements for the past couple of months. My parents have been hiding them from me, because they've been stealing from it. FML

This saddens me so much. Parents should be proud and supportive of their children. When the time comes, you need to decide if you need that negativity in your life and maybe cut ties with them.

Just a couple theories, but unless we get more details it is just as valid as any other: Maybe they weren't embarrassed by anything OP did, maybe they just didn't have much money and dressed OP in used clothes and didn't want the other parents to know about their predicament. Or OP had a really strong rebellious phase in their teens and ran around dressed extremely punk/metal/hippie/emo or any style that just looks stupid when overdone. Whatever reason, since OP just yet found out the reason they probably didn't let it show, and it doesn't say that they don't love OP.

No matter the reason, it's bullshit. You are embarrassed to be seen with your own kid. Not just if they do something stupid, just anytime. That's ****** up, they shouldn't have had a kid if they couldn't accept them.
