Today, I found out that the nickname my friend has been calling me in Japanese for the past year is the word for "Idiot". FML

Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found out that the loving nickname my Chinese mother has been calling me my entire life essentially translates to "little retard". FML
Today, I learned that the cute pet name my boyfriend has been calling me for the past month is actually an acronym for "pain in the a**". FML

Thanks mom
Today, I realized what my mom has been calling me for 20 years. She always calls me her "little fehler." With her being from Germany, I always thought it was a cute little nickname. Apparently, she's been calling me her "little mistake." FML
That's not my… name!
Today, my best friend sent me a postcard. She’s been calling me by my nickname for so long that she wrote the wrong name on it. FML
Unforgettable
Today, I realized that since I was in elementary school, my friends, my workmates, and even my family, all call me accidentally by someone else's name instead of my actual name. I'm 30 years-old. FML

Decoding
Today, I figured out my girlfriend's mother has various nicknames for me. My girlfriend and her family are from Poland and speak on the phone in their native tongue, but they don’t know I’ve been learning the language either. I heard her call me “idiot”, “loser”, “moron” and various other “nicknames” multiple times. FML

The baka is strong in this one.

Unfortunately my last name is Baca so I get asked about the Japanese word a lot.
martin8337 36
If I am not mistaken, Baca is Spanish for cow.
DoomSkuller 28
Baka is also Filipino for cow, though.
ExtremeEncounter 32
76 people also say that to me too, on account of their ignorance. It's vaca. Baca is a fairly common Mexican last name.

To be fair in Japan it's used more as a funny nickname and not an insult.

Can it not be both, Baka?

Since I have a friend who loves anime, of course I know that it is baka hahah

It actually depends on how you say it. The general translation is "fool"/"idiot", but it can really range anywhere between a vicious insult and an affectionate teasing ("you dummy"; etc).

You must be a weaboo 46
Retaheki 27
Weeaboo? Wrong. Check Urbandictonary, or really any place that'd define weeaboo. A weeaboo is someone who hates themselves or others for not being Japanese and stuff like that. They also denounce their culture and wants to be Japanese, usually because of anime or manga.

ばか is the most common. You might see 馬鹿 or バカ as well depending on context

sousaphonist 14
how do you NOT already know what "baka" means?
Immortal_Toaster 23
"Baka" means stupid, if they were calling him idiot, then his nickname would be "Aho."
WilliamMurderfac_fml 23
They can be fairly interchangable, and have basically the same meaning.
