Today, I found out that on Wednesday, when I have 2 exams, I'm called to testify in court. If I go to court, I cannot make the exams. If I take the exams, I'll be held in contempt and arrested. FML

Today, I found out that my father, who is divorced from my mother, has set up a lawsuit against her and that I am required to go to court and testify against her as a witness. I've tried to keep neutral for six years, and I'll go to jail if I don't show up. FML
Today, I called out "for personal reasons" from work because I had to study for a major test that's taking place tomorrow. An hour later, my manager called to fire me for "not taking work seriously." I then got an email telling me that the test was being postponed. FML
Today, I found out that I have to appear in juvenile court because I refused to go visit my dad, even though it was court ordered. FML
Today, I had to skip class to attend a truancy court hearing. FML
Today, I can't attend an interview for a great job because I have an exam. An exam I need to pass in order to have a great job like the one I'm missing the interview for. FML
Today, I went in to take my College Placement tests. I'd spent all week ignoring actual homework to study for these tests. When I got there, the responsible told me that the tests were last week. FML
Today, three days before I take my bar exam, the biggest exam of my life, I got my monthly. And I get to bring my belongings in a clear plastic bag so the world knows. FML
Today, my professor stated that every student who had perfect attendance would be exempt from taking the final. Having perfect attendance so far, I was thrilled. Then come to find out I have jury duty the day before the exam; she won't excuse my absence. FML
Today, I was subpoenaed on behalf of my mother-in-law. My husband said if I didn't defend her and consequently lie under oath, our marriage is over. She said, "I can get rid of two problems in one day!" FML
Today, I got cited for "internet plagiarism" and called to the dean's office. I'd been sitting a closed-book written exam, and my teacher had been breathing down my neck the whole time. FML

call your instructors. they should let you take the exams another day due to your court appearence. if they won't talk to the dean. sucks that you have to go to court though.

This is simple. Show the subpoena to your professor. If you haven't been subpoenaed then you're not under a legal obligation to attend - unless you've been previously ordered by the judge to be there. Have one of the lawyers write a quick letter. There are things you can do here. Don't just wallow on FML.

nah you guys can't just be like "do the exams on another day" If OP is here in Victoria, Aus, our end of year exams cannot be repeated if they are missed. If you miss the exam, they will provide you with a score based on your internal school marks and also heavily on the GAT (general achievement test, taken mid-year which is a test on the basics on every subject). However much of the state does not take the GAT seriously, (in fact, this year the whole state organised a prank where everyone attempted to mention george clooney as many times as they could throughout the test) Therefore, missing an exam can be extremely detrimental to your study score, as often many people rely doign well on the exam to boost their other scores. Study scores = the result universities use to determine if you are eligible for a course. that really sucks op.

I think ur talking about high-school exams, peppi. I'm assuming the OP is now at uni/college, so things work a little differently - usually you can deffer an exam or arrange with the faculty to have it at another time. pretty sucky situation though!

What's with people not understanding their rights anymore? You are allowed to miss exams due to these kinds of things. Just show the prof the court papers. Write the exams a day before, do something about it. ****.

The court takes precedence and the school cannot override them. Show the school your summons.

If you're called to testify in court, that probably doesn't mean you're the one being tried.

If you read the FML they have to TESTIFY which means they are a witness so they didn't get themselves arrested

If you're really responsible, ask the teacher to take the exams _the day before_ you were scheduled to appear in court. Very few teachers will complain about that.

I had the same thing happen to me. Just show the subpeona to your professors and they will let you take the exam on another day. Problem solved. Next!

Request for a delay, make-up, or deferral. People do it for being sick, accidents, etc. Not a big deal. Not even a deal really.
