Today, I drove across two states to see my brother, who's had a history of heart problems. My mother had sent me a long e-mail saying he was on his death bed and wanted to talk to me to "get his affairs in order." When I arrived worriedly, he was fine. My mother guilt-tripped me to come visit. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Rollercoaster ride of emotions
Today, I went to my dad's workplace because my sister was there and I wanted to see my newborn niece. I was overjoyed until my dad came up to me. It had apparently been pretty hectic for the past week, because he was on the verge of another stress-induced heart attack. Yes, another. We had to help him outside. FML
Adieu
Today, I saw an old friend while out and about. Since I don't leave the house very often, my friend was surprised to see me in person. He jokingly asked if someone was dying, and I cried in response. I was in fact going to the hospital to say goodbye to my grandma. FML
Today, I was driving home from swim practice with my mom. I glanced over and saw my brother's hot friend, who I've been secretly in love with forever. He waved to me, and excitedly I waved back. I then heard my mom say, "You're gonna die when you see how bad you look right now." FML
Thanks for the heads up
Today, at his request, I met up with my brother for lunch so we could catch up. Apparently, our mother put him up to it so he could tell me our parents are getting a divorce. They didn't want to tell me themselves because I'm "too emotional." FML
Golden child
Today, my mum went and told everyone she only went to the doctor after being ill because my brother told her to. It was me who'd been telling her for weeks to go. FML
Today, my mom let my younger brother borrow my car. He managed to crash it through the garage door. While I was in another country. Somehow, I manage to get berated by my mom because I'm not doing enough to make my brother feel better about him having an accident involving my car and my house. FML
**** me, right?
Today, I got offered a ride to go home for the weekend. I go to college six hours away from home and haven't seen my family for almost two months. When I called my mom with the good news, she told me not to come. FML
Drama alert
Today, I went to visit my grandparents, as my grandmother may not have long left. When my stepfather wasn't grilling my visibly uncomfortable grandad about Bible passages, my mother was trauma-dumping about how hard her life has been, and how awful her marriage to my father was. They're his parents. FML
Favorite child
Today, I heard that my mom is coming back from France, where my brother lives. I have lived in the same place, exactly 45 minutes from my mother, for 6 years. She hasn't visited me once, but has been out of state to see my sibling. FML
Growing old is a shipwreck
Today, I visited my Mum. She has invited me to visit her before, but kept cancelling whenever I tried to arrange an actual visit. I finally went over anyway, only to find her in a soiled nappy, room in ruins, with kidney failure-induced dementia. Sometimes they hide it well over the phone. FML

Do you never visit your family?

I assume not if her mother had to tell that big of a lie just to get her to visit...either that or she's just crazy:/ how sad.

you didn't think of calling him first?

True but maybe he was apparently 'too ill'

YDI for not calling his home or checking in some other way. If he were truly on his deathbed, then an email (which may go unread for days, or sent to junk by mistake) is really not the way to inform people about it.

Exactly! Did they really think showing up unannounced to somebody with a heart condition's house was a good idea. And where exactly were they planning to stay...at the supposedly dying person's house?

Buy your mother a copy of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf'. My brother lives long way from me but I have been there by his side when he almost died from a heart problem and needed surgery. And I know he'd be there for me in similar circumstances. There's no reason to trick people like you were tricked.

Umm... That's not a guilt trip. That's just lying.

Your mom is deceitful but just enjoy your visit with your brother. Enjoy your time together and appreciate that he's not on his death bed.

Next time, call your brother to confirm before driving hundreds of miles. That's what the phone's for.

Wow am I really the only person that would never forgive my mother for this? I don't care who u r literally u lie about something that serious I will NEVER trust u again. Nothing that comes out of ur mouth will be taken seriously and I sure as hell would never want to visit. So if this mother wants her child to visit her and this is how she does it? Then that's an awful way to parent.
