Today, I drove across two states to see my brother, who's had a history of heart problems. My mother had sent me a long e-mail saying he was on his death bed and wanted to talk to me to "get his affairs in order." When I arrived worriedly, he was fine. My mother guilt-tripped me to come visit. FML

Do you never visit your family?

I assume not if her mother had to tell that big of a lie just to get her to visit...either that or she's just crazy:/ how sad.

That must've been very frightening for you, OP. What your mother did was horrible, even if it was for a good reason. It cause a great deal of mental, emotional and even physical pain and stress to find out a loved one is dying. To lie to someone about it forces them to go through that pain and stress when it's not necessary and is horrible thing to do. At least you were able to spend time with your brother. I hope he stays health and lives a long, healthy life.

It never occurred to you to call first? ydi
