Today, I discovered my employer is advertising for a contractor position within my team performing basically the same role as myself. Except the pay is seven times more. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Contracted
Today, I finally got an offer for a salaried position with the company I've been working for as a contractor for the past two years. They offered less than what I make now, but hey, benefits! FML
Admit you're shit
Today, I found out that one of my coworkers, who has been with the company for less than a week, is getting a $7k pay rise. I've been with the company for 8 months and still on minimum wage. FML
Today, I found an ad for my job at my company on an online job board. FML
Seize the means
Today, the person recently hired to work in my spot during my days off started at a higher hourly rate than me, after I have been here for nearly three years. I asked for a raise and got a dollar more; meanwhile, my regional counterparts make 4 dollars more per hour. FML
Exploited
Today, we had two of our longest serving coworkers retire at the company I work at, and they hired two young prospects to replace them. The problem? They asked me to train them both for the next 4 months, cancelling my PTO in the process, and then I learned they were being paid nearly 20% more than I am. FML
Today, I found out that a co-worker of mine that I had originally hired, trained, and mentored to work in my department for the past 4 years had just got the promotion that I had applied for. He is now my boss. FML
Today, I was forced into accepting a "promotion" for a position that pays less than what I get right now. FML
Today, I got a new title at work. My boss hyped it up and made it sound amazing, so I accepted. Come to find out it pays 20k less a year and is twice as much work. FML
Today, my boss found out I had applied for a much better paying job. He told me I'd do a better job and make more money there. Then he fired me. FML
Today, I found out someone doing the exact same job as me at work is making $900 more than me on their paycheck. The only reason is because when he messes up, he blames it on me. FML

This is not an FML, this is an opportunity! Apply for that position! And if you don't get it, negotiate about a better salary!

quit and apply for it.

Just apply for it? Jeeze, why is this bad. You have a shot at earning seven times as much as you do now, just minus the job security.

or ask for a raise

Basically meaning not exactly...? So does this job have more, or fewer obligations? IMO, stop whining OP, at least you have a job.

Yeah just apply for it. This is not a FML, this is a big opportunity for you. If it's basically the same job you should easily get it, unless you suck at your job.

Contractor jobs usually pay more because they don't include benefits and they are only temporary jobs. Be thankful you have a full time job in this economy.

Keep in mind that it costs far more to employ someone than to contract them. When you employ someone, you have to pay benefits, taxes, insurance, and a ton of other stuff. I don't think that makes up the full seven times your salary, but I hope it helps.

well you also need to pay them for 40 hours a week too. If you had a contractor, you would only need to pay them when you had work for them.

quit crying and APPLY! everyone else on your team already did. for all you know, so did I. and just so you know, when I get the spot since I will make seven times more than you, it must mean I am your boss. this means you get all the work, while I get to bail out early on Friday and take all the credit.

BASICALLY the same role? Sounds like you don't even know what the role is. And yeah, if you think you can do the job, why didn't you just apply instead of coming here to bitch and cry?
