Seize the means
Today, the person recently hired to work in my spot during my days off started at a higher hourly rate than me, after I have been here for nearly three years. I asked for a raise and got a dollar more; meanwhile, my regional counterparts make 4 dollars more per hour. FML

Across the board, the only way to get a meaningful raise is to find a new job. Use the 3-year rule. Year 1, learn your job. Year 2, do your job. Year 3, train your replacement and look for a promotion/job. Merit raises will never make up for real promotions as changing jobs/companies.

Very simple solution - Don’t quit yet, but start looking for another job. When you find a decent one, then quit and don’t look back.

You probably didn't cry hard enough to get the big raise. That strategy works!
