Today, I decided I need help, so I confessed to my mother that I'm bulimic. After she looked it up online she started screaming at me for "Wasting food that I'm not paying for." FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I admitted to my parents that I have an eating disorder. Instead of trying to help, my mom stared at me and said, "Duh". FML
Wow, thanks, I'm cured
Today, I told my mom that I'm bulimic and have been for a few years, and that I needed help. She responded by saying, "Well that's clearly not working for you. Why don't you try anorexia?" She then patted me on the head, smiled, and walked away. FML
Today, I finally broke down and told my mom that I'd relapsed with my eating disorder. She told me to quit whining and eat a burger, because she didn't want to pay for another therapy session. FML
Today, my mother called me a "wasteful child" because I threw up my lunch. FML
Today, I felt sick to my stomach, so I told my mother I didn't want to eat dinner. She started accusing me of being anorexic, so I ate a little bit anyway to make her stop. I then threw up, only for her to take it as confirmation that I have an eating disorder. FML
Today, my morbidly obese mother gave me an angry lecture at dinner, saying without any trace of irony that my vegetarian diet is "unhealthy and utterly unacceptable". FML
Today, after I skipped dessert for the third day in a row, my mom cornered me and accused me of being anorexic. I'm actually not far off being clinically obese and I'm just trying to diet, but nothing I say will convince her. She wants me to see a psychiatrist about a disorder I don't even have. FML
Harsh words
Today, I told my mom that I think I’m anorexic and she told me she didn’t care. When I asked why, in disbelief she replied, "Honey, you are 5’3 and over 350 lbs, at this point you NEED to be anorexic." FML
ED much?
Today, my step-mom asked if I was having some eating issues. I admitted that maybe I've picked up some bad habits from friends and school. Now she won't stop bombarding me with self-help books and therapy websites. FML
Understanding
Today, after struggling with an eating disorder and hiding my symptoms for months, I got up the courage to tell my mom that I need help. Then she asked if an ice cream would make me feel better. FML

OP, I'm sorry 90% of the people in this thread are being assholes. I'm a recovering bulimic myself and I know how hard it can be. If your mom doesn't understand, please seek therapy so you have someone to listen to you and help you through these difficult times. And to everyone giving her crap for "wasting food middle Eastern kids could eat," it's not as though she's physically stealing food from underprivileged. Her not throwing up her pizza isn't going to buy one for a refugee camp. If you're so concerned about starvation, donate food or money or time to charities helping them instead of sitting around mocking someone on the internet. You might think you're Mother Theresa, but bitching on FML isn't putting food on anybody's plate.

Lame. That sucks that your mother did not react how you needed her to. I hope she comes to be more supportive. I wish you the best in your recovery.

True, it's not like that. But it's not like she has much more control over her problem than if she did.

I won't even speak my mind on this one, if you think those people are being insensitive you'd call me a monster. Though; I'll admit I don't care about those third world countries, survival of the fittest.

Me too. I just don't buy it.

I really can't believe any of these people really have dissorders, when they post them on fml especially one who wants to get help. call a hotline or something

Anyone else tired of their comments getting hidden just because they posted an opinion that a bunch of people didn't agrees on? I'm thinking that have that so people can't spam and say ydi it for creating aids or some other bullshit. Why even post an opinion if it is just going to get covered up?

Comments get buried because they are offensive, stupid or mean. And if people are offended by what you have to say and bury your comments, you are privy to some of the blame. If you don't want to get buried, consider eloquence and tact rather than crudeness and insensitivity.

Because it only takes one click to uncover it?

Not every thought that pops into your head is an opinion. An opinion is an assessment of a situation that is open to debate. If you make a statement as if it were factual even though it's actually wrong, it's more of a delusion than an opinion. If your delusion is offensive to boot, people going to thumbs-down it. End of story. For example, the medical and psychological communities are in agreement, based on overwhelming scientific evidence, that bulimia nervosa is a mental disorder that has biological as well as environmental causes. Saying otherwise is contrary to fact. Adding on something insulting about those who suffer from the disorder is offensive. That is why people are clicking thumbs down on your comments.

Well she's kinda right, you're technically wasting food, you don't digest it fully then at the end it dosn't do it's purpose, and like many must have said before having food is a privilege not all the world has. Most likely your mum told you that cause the economy isn't exactly in it's best time and she's stressed about it. Get as much help possiblr, it's an eating disorder buy you need to have will power to end it no matter how hard it is or any help you get will be useless, like #87 said it's not like some wizard put a spell on you to magically make yourself throw up.

" it's not like some wizard put a spell on you to magically make yourself throw up." You know, it isn't, but your brain can do the job of that 'wizard', and after enough time, your body will automatically force you to throw up without any effort on your part. That's why it's hard to recover: Your body is still trying, even if you're making the effort to try and sort the psychological part (which is ******* hard in itself.)

oh my gosh.....OP, I am so sorry your mom reacted that way. It sucks to not have supportive parents...**** your mom for being an insensitive *****. Oh, and to everyone railing on her for 'wasting food' or whatever...shut your faces. It isn't something she can just stop doing. It has to do with a terrible self-image, which many girls seem to have these days. Get a clue. It's classified as a mental disorder FOR A REASON!
z411811 0
That's a cure for self esteem? I'm sure lots of guys find it very attractive when someone runs of to throw up after every meal. If people would just think a little bit this world would be a whole lot better
piles_of_fail 0
never said it was. It's CAUSED by low self-esteem, among other things. Big difference there.

Unless she involuntarily throws up, as in her body automatically reacts when she eats food and regurgitates it, she's being a stubborn bitch. As is anyone else who thinks they have no control of their own finger after they eat. Seriously, it's not hard to NOT make yourself throw up, if you think it is you're either weakminded or a liar.
monnanon 14
people are not saying that she does not have control over the sick but the mind set that leads her to being sick is what she had no control over. As it is a MENTAL DISORDER she will not think rationally about things like that because of low self esteem/depression/abuse etc (im not saying OP has all of these Im just listing some of the causes of eating disorders) So yeah someone who can think rationally can say why the hell would you do that but to her its a simple solution to difficult situations in her life.
fudrick 0
And do you idiots really believe it's a "disorder" that people have no control over? Why is there almost never a problem with bulimia in poor families? Why is it almost always the rich, pampered girls who are horribly stricken with this disease?
GreenAlbatross 3
It's because you never hear about the poor girls who get it. Societal expectations for body image affect all women. And it's actually worse in poor families in America because the cheap food is the most fattening meaning that the rich girls can afford to eat food that's actually good for them and that help them maintain an ideal body image.
sarabareillesrox 0
"why is always the rich pampered girls?" It isn't. You're making blatant assumptions without even googling something, or looking at the fact that the OP is in Bulgaria, which isn't as economically developed as America, which makes the OP less likely to be the sort of sufferer you're stereotyping. Stop watching soaps on television for your facts.
fudrick 0
@#201 I'm basing it off of real life, not soaps. I don't even watch that shit. But anyway, if OP has a computer, she's obviously not at the poorer end of Bulgaria.
