Today, I decided I need help, so I confessed to my mother that I'm bulimic. After she looked it up online she started screaming at me for "Wasting food that I'm not paying for." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I admitted to my parents that I have an eating disorder. Instead of trying to help, my mom stared at me and said, "Duh". FML
Wow, thanks, I'm cured
Today, I told my mom that I'm bulimic and have been for a few years, and that I needed help. She responded by saying, "Well that's clearly not working for you. Why don't you try anorexia?" She then patted me on the head, smiled, and walked away. FML
Today, I finally broke down and told my mom that I'd relapsed with my eating disorder. She told me to quit whining and eat a burger, because she didn't want to pay for another therapy session. FML
Today, my mother called me a "wasteful child" because I threw up my lunch. FML
Today, I felt sick to my stomach, so I told my mother I didn't want to eat dinner. She started accusing me of being anorexic, so I ate a little bit anyway to make her stop. I then threw up, only for her to take it as confirmation that I have an eating disorder. FML
Today, my morbidly obese mother gave me an angry lecture at dinner, saying without any trace of irony that my vegetarian diet is "unhealthy and utterly unacceptable". FML
Today, after I skipped dessert for the third day in a row, my mom cornered me and accused me of being anorexic. I'm actually not far off being clinically obese and I'm just trying to diet, but nothing I say will convince her. She wants me to see a psychiatrist about a disorder I don't even have. FML
Harsh words
Today, I told my mom that I think I’m anorexic and she told me she didn’t care. When I asked why, in disbelief she replied, "Honey, you are 5’3 and over 350 lbs, at this point you NEED to be anorexic." FML
ED much?
Today, my step-mom asked if I was having some eating issues. I admitted that maybe I've picked up some bad habits from friends and school. Now she won't stop bombarding me with self-help books and therapy websites. FML
Understanding
Today, after struggling with an eating disorder and hiding my symptoms for months, I got up the courage to tell my mom that I need help. Then she asked if an ice cream would make me feel better. FML

OP, I'm sorry 90% of the people in this thread are being assholes. I'm a recovering bulimic myself and I know how hard it can be. If your mom doesn't understand, please seek therapy so you have someone to listen to you and help you through these difficult times. And to everyone giving her crap for "wasting food middle Eastern kids could eat," it's not as though she's physically stealing food from underprivileged. Her not throwing up her pizza isn't going to buy one for a refugee camp. If you're so concerned about starvation, donate food or money or time to charities helping them instead of sitting around mocking someone on the internet. You might think you're Mother Theresa, but bitching on FML isn't putting food on anybody's plate.

Lame. That sucks that your mother did not react how you needed her to. I hope she comes to be more supportive. I wish you the best in your recovery.

are you stupid? eating disorders arent necissarily something you think about and comprehend. you do it bcuz it helps calm the craziness going on in your head and your stomach. its a disease. and what the hell is wrong with ALL of you idiots bitching about what she could've been doing with the food instead of throwing it up. yea it sounds like a great idea to mail milk to the middle east. u are an idiot. to OP I hope your mom comes around and decides to be supportive with your battle with this disease and i wish you the best of luck.

THANK YOU! i just posted something like this, but not quite as powerful. I hope people reading this start to understand what you're saying, bcuz you are very right.

i agree with 6, and 1, why even ****** bother eating if your going to throw up, people die without food everyday, why dont you just get over being thin, anorexic and belimec people are ugly because theyre too ******* skinny, if you want to look good, have a well balanced diet and hit the gym, some fats better than none!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, eating disorders are not about wanting to look thin! They are a psychological disorder as a result of low self image and self esteem.

Are half of the fml users recovering bulimics? what the hell? JUST STOP SHOVING YOUR FINGER DOWN UR THROAT. I don't get it

are you ******* retarded? they cant stop, just as people with anorexia cant eat normally and people with depression cant suddenly make themselves happy. its part of being sick - like telling someone with a broken leg to fix it straightaway. she needs help. and mental illness is no easier than physical.
z411811 0
A broken leg has to heal and be fixed. That is phisical and has nothing to do with a mental illness. With some self restraint and control it's pretty easy. I bet u are one of those persons that thinks alcholics have a "disease" called alchoholism.

Actually, there are more people with eating disorders than people with breast cancer. It's more common than you probably think, although people with eating disorders don't tend to advertise.
penizulaface 0
really? are you that stupid? im "one of those retards" with severe clinical depression who knows just how tough and ****** up it all is. alcoholism is an ADDICTION. they simply cant say no and they cant help it. the mind needs to heal too. and unlike a broken leg, the mentally ill are often ashamed of whats going on with them. people like you basically saying that it doesnt exist are really... ******.

oh and the "disease" stuff, its her fault, she made the first wrong move by starting this habbit, so what if its out of control, dont you reallize that just cause its a disease doesnt meen its not preventable, if you didnt start puking, it couldnt have escaladed to a problem, and to the "Oh one persons meal doesnt matter in the long run" you ever heard the starfish beach story, well look it up (if it doesnt relate to this wrong story)

Bulimia doesn't begin when you first throw up, it begins long before that and can have its roots in depression etc. And although it is treatable it's not 'preventable'. Like with depression you can't just snap out of it and say 'I'm going to be happy today', with eating disorders you can't just say to yourself 'hey I'm not going to throw up my meal today/I'm going to fix my self esteem issues'.

Tie their hands away from their throat. Problem solved

Why are people like #76, #100, and #102 so determined to believe that bulimia isn't a real problem? :/ I'm not going to get up on a soapbox and tell everyone how serious of an illness it is, but why are so many people so blatantly rude about it when they don't know how bad it can be? Is it trendy to be nasty and obnoxious now? Do people feel cool and/or smart because they're pissing strangers off on an Internet forum by expressing their uninformed opinions? I don't know what it is, really. Can someone enlighten me?
Sleepwalker418 0
Pandasaur, it's because they knew that if they said it in real life, they would be shunned and/or punched in the face. They get to hide behind their computer on the internet.

This is FML not a bulimia support group, get the **** over it.
Arcterion 0
YDI Get over it.
shaZamy 0
yea that sucks, but she's right. being bulimec (spelled right? :/ ) is not a disease, it's you being crazy and barfing up food
onlysoph 0
How is bulimia (check the spelling in the actual FML) not a disease? Mental diseases are just as medically legitimate as physical ones.
penizulaface 0
"crazy" = mentally ill = she needs help. *******.
yummehMOO 0
Are you people crazy?? Bulimia is definitely a disease! It's even classified as an eating disorder! (which is a mental disease!) Anyways, ignore those ignorant twats. But your mom's a stupid and terrible mother for even thinking of saying something like that, and I hope you get well soon!♥

Ok, may I point out the fact that if the girl just didn't eat the food that was placed in front of her, there is a high chance it would've been just thrown away. And as for the 3rd world countries starving, I invite you to only eat what you NEED to, and ship all you leftovers to Africa. You think that will fix the problem, don't you? The kind of help they need isn't table scraps from the rest of the world. They need help building an infrastructure and support system so that they don't have to beg us for help. The are proud, albeit unfortunate, people. Not dogs who want half of your cheeseburger.
z411811 0
No but if her mother would have taken the money that her daughter wasted and sent it to charitys and organizations it would help.
GreenAlbatross 3
Somehow I doubt the mum would actually do that. If she's this insensitive towards her own daughter, I doubt she'd care too much about children half-way around the world. Also, stores and restaurants don't exactly let you give back one or two portions and get a discount for it. Try weighing how much food you throw away in a week. (throwing away rotten food counts, you let it go to waste)
