Today, I came home to find that my roommate had picked my lock and stolen my new laptop. When I tried to take it back, he called the police. They sided with him since he had also taken the receipt, which was "proof" that it was his. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Today, I took my new laptop into my house from my car, thinking it would be a too much of a target for kids grabbing it. I came home tonight to find my door kicked in, my laptop gone and my TV ripped from the wall. FML
Today, I borrowed a roommate's car to get groceries. I came out to find the car stolen. I called the cops, and the responding officer took the info and drove me home to give the roomie the bad news in person. 15 minutes later, they found the car. I'd parked it on the opposite side of the lot. FML
Today, someone stole my laptop from my car. However, they were nice enough to relock the doors after they smashed in the window. FML
Cheeky sod
Today, the man who stole my laptop at the train station yesterday used the contact information I had written on it to call me and ask for the password. FML
Today, I stayed at my boyfriend's house after mine was broken into. The robber took my laptop, jewellery, and tons of clothes. When I walked into his house, I was greeted by his brother, wearing one of my stolen shirts. FML
Today, I arrived at my apartment to find the door kicked in. Inside, I found my TV, Xbox, stereo, CDs, and laptop had all been stolen. When my roommate got home, I told him about it, to which he replied, "Yeah, I left my keys inside this morning, so I kicked the door in to get them." He'd left, leaving the door kicked in. FML
Oddly specific
Today, my house was broken into. The burglar didn't steal my brand new laptop, iPad or TV. They instead made off with every single item of clothing I own. When I went to turn on my TV to try and distract myself from this, I found all of the cables in back missing. The police don't believe me. FML
Today, the police called because someone had turned in my wallet that was stolen. I happily drove home only to find that my house had been robbed and ransacked. FML
Today, I got my laptop back after lending it to my friend. It wouldn't boot, and after investigating I found out it'd been stripped of its hard drive and all its memory. When I confronted my "friend", he accused me of lying and trying to ruin his reputation. FML
On the hook
Today, I lost my keys. My roommate locked me out, then yelled at me when I made her come home to let me in. I tore my room apart searching for them, and even went out to search my locker room. When I got home, I glanced at my wall only to find my keys hanging on the hook I set up specifically for them. FML

Did you pay in cash? If not, get statements from the bank or credit company. If you bought it in a physical store, which is what it sounds like, talk to the manager at the store and see if they can pull video of you purchasing it or pull a copy of the receipt. Then take the bastard to small claims court if you have to. If you paid in straight cash... don't ever do it again, because stuff like this happens, unfortunately. I hope the bastard gets kneecapped.

Time to find a new roommate. Sorry he turned out to be such a thief and a liar. I guess from now on, carry receipts with you.

If you have online banking there's a chance that the online statement will have that name of the store you bought the laptop from as well as the corresponding price

Still you can get your laptop back if it was running Mac or Windows, cause the first time you create your it asks for mail ID. It registers your device under your mail ID, so can show it under your devices in your account.

You can show the receipt if it has the last 4 digits of your card (assuming you paid with a card) and then show them the card to show it matches. They can't let someone get away with stealing someone else's personal property without as much as investigating. They can't go by word of mouth, they need physical evidence.

I'm thinking it should be fairly easy to prove it was yours. I'm assuming you didn't pay cash for it so there's a paper trail.
