Today, I bought an $80, "invincible" phone case. One test drop later, my phone had turned into an expensive paperweight. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Mr Butterfingers
Today, I dropped my phone. I'd only just bought this new phone last night. It barely survived 12 hours. FML
Today, I realized the $40 iPhone case I bought to keep my new phone from getting scratched, scratched my iPhone. FML
Today, my fancy rubber phone case did its job and saved my phone from damage when I dropped it on the bathroom counter. Unfortunately, it was rather useless after the massive bounce it took before landing in the toilet. FML
Today, I bought a new phone. It's shock proof, water proof, you name it. Just not kitten proof, it seems. That's $400 down the drain. FML
Today, after calling the insurance plan for my new iPhone a "huge waste of money", I promptly dropped it in the store while trying to put it into my pocket, cracking the screen. FML
Today, I figured out that a $40 phone case does not protect your $500 phone from a five year-old throwing it off a fourth story balcony. FML
Today, my friend told me that Otter Box phone cases protect the phone whether it's thrown or just dropped. I disagreed. He then threw his phone across the room into a cement wall to prove it. The phone's screen was completely shattered and now he thinks I owe him a new phone. FML
Today, my roommate was making a waterproof iPhone case and decided to use my phone to test it out. It didn't work. FML
Today, I bought an otter box. While setting up my iPhone, I dropped it and it is now shattered. FML
Today, I realized that with all the money I've spent on repairs for my iPhone through the months, I could have bought a phone that doesn't die horribly whenever I so much as give it a mean look. FML

Reminds me of when I was 6 and I snapped a 'shatterproof' ruler...

What did you expect? For it to stand a nuclear explosion? Don't believe everything you read, especially when it comes up buying products.
missalkali 8
no. I think he just expected it to withstand a five foot drop. if he expected it to withstand a nuke, he'd have simulated that. notice how he didn't simulate a nuclear explosion.
gracehi 33
That's just ridiculous! Everyone knows that no phone case can protect a cell phone from a nuclear explosion! You'd have to put it in a lead lined refrigerator to protect it from that! Sheesh!
oj101 33
I have a $35 Speck Candyshell and it could withstand a 10 feet drop undoubtedly. My main point is that Americans are marketing geniuses and somehow coax you into shelling out more for a fairly useless product. And if they call it 'invincible' then it should be. In Europe it wouldn't be allowed, and probably be renamed ultra tough at best.
gracehi 33
America has false advertising laws too. I guess marketers just find ways around them. I find it hard to believe that European marketers never sucker people, especially since many of the products are exactly the same.

haha nice ^

I'm from Europe - the UK and lived in America for 2 when I was little. Now I'm in Aus. When you buy something (UK), the total price is included as opposed to America's just stating the price and not the tax. We also don't have to tip. Yes the products are exactly the same, but it costs 2x more in Europe, 3x more in Aus - but at least we don't get suckered. But fair play, American marketers are geniuses and innovative :)
zingline89 18
It costs 2-3 times more, but you're NOT getting suckered?
oj101 33
No. I try on clothes etc in stores, then import it from America from the Internet at cost price, or have my friends/family who visit every 2/3 months bring stuff for me. But yes, we are suckered in a different way :|
gracehi 33
The total price is given in the UK because the UK has a 15% national sales tax which is automatically applied to everything sold, unlike in America where sales tax is determined by the individual states, if the state chooses to impose a sales tax at all, but it's usually only 6 or 7 percent if it is imposed. I too was born in the UK and lived there until I was six when I moved to America. My mother is American and my father is English, and I've visited England several times, where I payed a ridiculous exchange rate for everything I bought. I'm quite well traveled otherwise, and I can tell you that if you think you can't get suckered, wherever you may be, you probably get suckered a lot.
gracehi 33
Why would you think anything that cost $80 is invincible? Shit, even Super Man turns to human putty in the presence of Kryptonite, and I bet he'd fetch far more than 80 bucks if there was super human trafficking.
Welshite 40
He actually came pretty cheap. Not many villains wanted a super hero who only did good, so I basically got him on sale.
gracehi 33
Yeah, but I mean, you HAD to have spent more than 80 bucks on The Man of Steel. Shit, I know if I had Super Man, I wouldn't let him go for less than 100.
wickedninja918 1
32 thats probably cus you find him attractive
gracehi 33
Not to mention useful! "Super Man, I seem to have fallen off another sky scraper. Be a dear and catch me before I turn into human pizza, would you?" "Super Man, a tree seems to have fallen on my car. Be a dear and bend it back into shape, would you?" "Super Man, a nuclear explosion appears to be fast approaching. Be a dear and shield me from the impact and radiation, would you?"
Welshite 40
Truthfully, the only reason I keep him around is so that he can pop the lids off pickle jars. Oh, and he's awesome at fighting off the dust bunnies.

I don't know about you but I would rather have a Wonder Woman. She makes me super bacon!

Given the cost of the case in contrast to the cost of many phones, I'm tempted to believe, and certainly hope, it was an iPhone, even better if it was an iPhone 5.

22 Well aren't you just a little bit evil there! That's really mean to say, especially about someone who has never done anything to you. Sorry OP! Some people are just evil and rude. Don't let it get you down. Shit happens and you learn and move on from it.

Otter boxes r the case to go for if u want shatter proof. I have slammed my phone on the ground and dropped multiple heavy things on it.

A multitude
wickedninja918 1
*a multitude of, if your going to correct someone use correct grammar
sammisweets93 12
I was correcting myself but thank you lol... i ran out of time to edit it after I wrote the comment, so thank you that's what I was trying to say.

57- if you're going to be rude, pay attention :P
sammisweets93 12
Aha thanks and if you totally want to correct grammar it shall go like this.......are* cases* a multitude of*
CharresBarkrey 16
57 - You're the LAST person to correct someone's grammar. Your posts are borderline illegible from your terrible spelling and grammar. Also, *you're.
Spazz420 7
And on otter box isn't $80 :)
sammisweets93 12
Exactly I got mine for I think 20 dollars
annalily5 28
This was much more entertaining when I first read it as "explosive paperweight".
MindFreakazoid 10
I'm sure 16 agrees with that...
DocBastard 40
Whenever I see that something is "anything-proof", I always see it as a challenge. "Ah, I see this is childproof! Here Junior, see if you can get the medicine out of this bottle."
redbluegreen 41
Inconceivable!
gracehi 33
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
CharresBarkrey 16
Sadly, 37, I think you're getting thumbed down because people think you're referring to the meme, and not the movie :(
gracehi 33
Sadly, at least two people have never seen "The Princess Bride." That's the real tragedy. :( And what meme is that? I've never seen an "inconceivable" meme.
CharresBarkrey 16
There's a meme with Inigo Montoya saying "you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
Jessj958 19
Yea, I'm gonna have to agree with everyone else...it was pretty silly to purposely drop your phone. And I'd have to say even sillier to spend $80 on a phone case, but maybe that's just me. When I had my iPhone 3GS I had a $15 case that held up to a 6 year old and a baby!
cswens25 8
Don't worry, it's just you.
1coolchic 4
After my two year old destroyed 2 iPhones (thank God for insurance!), I bought one of those $80 cases and am soooo happy I did. It's survived a dunk in my coffee and several drops.
mattiemo 3
Clearly YDI. Why people always think that cases are 100% safe is beyond me. I work in a shop where we sell cases like that, my favourite moment is when customers are adamant about a rubber case as 'it bounces'. Yeah, right!

At first glance I thought it stood invisible ...
