Today, after finally seeing a psychologist about the death of my dad and spending the longest hour of my life confessing every thought I've experienced in the 6 years since his passing, my psychologist asked me if I was walking home or if my dad would be picking me up. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Let it out
Today, I finally convinced my mum to take me to a psychologist. As soon as he sat me down and asked me how I was doing, my mum burst into tears and went on a rant about how her life is terrible and she regrets everything. I was asked to sit in the waiting room. She used up my whole hour. FML
Today, on my way to see my therapist, my father told me to lie to her and tell her that I'm happy so he wouldn't have to drive me there anymore. FML
Misery loves company
Today, my dad came home from work complaining about all the people he'd seen. He said he doesn't understand why so many people with problems have to confide in him. He's a psychologist. FML
Today, my mum wants me to see a psychologist because I've been acting strange lately. If by "strange" she means "not wanting to die any more", then sure. But thanks, I could've used that psychologist 3 years ago when I asked for one. FML
Drama!
Today, my distraught mom called me, saying my dad had killed himself and to come home right away. After cussing out my math teacher for trying to stop me and rushing back home in a taxi, I ran into the living room, only to find my parents laughing so hard they were practically in tears. FML
Helicopter parents
Today, instead of having my friends come pick me up, my dad drove me over to visit them. He insisted on walking me up to the door, hugging me goodbye, and making sure my friends were appropriate enough to hang out with. I'm in college. FML
Today, my dad refused to pick me up because he didn't want to get off the couch, so I had to walk for an hour and a half to get home. When I finally got home, my dad had gone out to pick my sister up from her friend's house. Her friend lives a 3-minute walk away. FML
Are you kidding me?
Today, my mom talked me into going to a funeral since my dad wouldn't go. It was for one of her classmates. When it was our time to view the casket, we paused in front of it for a second before my mom leans over to me and says, "What if I told you that was really your dad?" FML
Support system
Today, I tried to tell my dad that I was really struggling with my mental health and didn't think I could stay alive much longer. He laughed. This comes after telling my "best friend" last week and having to wait three days for a reply. FML
Today, I saw my dad for the first time in almost five years, at his funeral. FML

I'm sorry OP. Try a new therapist, this one is obviously in the wrong field.

That's awkward.

Wow I hope you didn't pay for that session and will make sure to report that he does not listen to his patients. It must be hard but try and find another therapist. They are not all rubbish like this one and you have made a strong decision to speak about your feelings. Don't let that incompetent moron shy you away from confiding your thoughts.

I agree. Don't pay the bill and find someone better. I suppose trusting a new psychologist won't be so easy after this debacle but I really hope you can try and make it all work. Sorry 'bout your dad, OP.

He could also say "my dad will pay for it"

I really hope that was just a honest mistake, when you don't realize what you're saying, if not, that's just awful.

But if it was an accident, the therapist would've immediately apologized. It just shows that the therapist was not listening/showing any interest. It's such a sucky feeling to have that happen to you.

I see your point. I just hope, because if not, I just lose more hope in humanity..

What an idiot. Hopefully he realises what he's done.

Then we'll see this FML "I'm a psychiatrist. Today at work I wasn't listening to my obviously distressed patient. When he was leaving I asked him if his dad was picking him up. Turns out he was dead and my client just spend the last hours telling me about their grief. I realized what I've done only three hours later. I think I'm going to rot in hell for that one. "

That's awful. Hope you are ok...

Smack him across the face then ask him "how does that make you FEEL"

Maybe he meant that the memory of your dad would pick up your spirits or... Nah, he's just a jerk who's collecting a fee by allowing patients to rant while he naps with his eyes open. Time to find another therapist/psychologist.

He sounds like an ass. Don't pay then sue.

Why not just report him/her and let their Superiors deal with it, put it on their record, fire them, or all of the above? I'm sure she'll get a just punishment for not only disappointing a patient, but also losing a client. There's always people on here who automatically put "you should sue". No need to sue and go through the hassle of getting/paying for a lawyer.

Sue for what? not listening? that case would be thrown out and you would be laughed out of the building. just report them for not doing there job and never go back that's all.

Freudian slip? You hear the word Dad all day and you might accidentally let it slip. Either way I bet she asks you how you feel about it in your next session.
