Thanks, I feel better!

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my boyfriend dumped me, all because he's scared of my mother. FML
Today, I went to my grandmother's house to pick up her cat to take him to the vet. She forgot who I was and sprayed me in the face with pepper spray. FML
Today, I was fired for having a haircut that was 'inappropriate for the workplace'. I have alopecia. My boss told me to stop making up excuses. FML
Today, I was together with a few of my friends when I got up the courage to confess I have an eating disorder. One of my friends then said "... but you're not skinny." FML
Today, my grandmother gave me rosary beads for my birthday. She told me I'd better start praying for a husband. FML
Today, not only did my boyfriend set my hair on fire, but he attempted to put it out by dumping bong water on my head. FML
Today, while I was removing my makeup with my boyfriend watching, he mentioned that he used to think girls were prettier without makeup on, but he'd now changed his mind. FML
Today, I got a call from a girl I dated long ago, who cheated on me and got pregnant by another guy, or so we thought. Turns out it isn't his, and she is taking me to court for child support. FML
Today, my mother told my boyfriend a cute story about me when I was little. The one where my cousin and I were caught pooping in a urinal in the church basement. FML
Today, I was insulted and harassed by my sister and her boyfriend, all because I proposed yesterday. They were angry I might get married before they did. They have known each other since primary school; I met my fiancée earlier this year. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

Grandmas can be really tough sometimes :/

He didn't break up with her, he cheated on her, which is much worse. I'm sorry OP, cheating is always the cheater's fault, and your granny should have been a little more sensitive to your feelings.

Your boyfriend cheating is not a reflection on you. It was his decision, his action. It is his responsibility, not yours. Be happy with who you are. Be happy with what you do. If you are not happy with either, change it. What others may think or say of you is irrelevant.

Let me guess; you're black and your grandmother full of internalised racism?

I take it she was not burning her bras back in the 70s.

I'm not saying there is ever an excusable reason to cheat, but sometimes people do it because they aren't getting what they wanted from the relationship and they don't want to hurt the person they're with by breaking up because they love them... A lot of times, if this is the case, it hurts the cheater just as much as it hurts the cheated on after its all said and done.

Maybe if you're in middle school. It makes no sense to avoid hurting and breaking up with someone by doing something that will hurt them worse than talking to them about how you feel. By doing that you're just making it even more likely they'll break up with you. If someone can't talk to their b/gf about their relationship and address any problems, then they shouldn't be with that person and probably shouldn't be in a relationship at all until they grow up and mature
holly_fly 34
But what if said person tried to talk it out, and they came to the agreement of an open relationship? It's still cheating, and it still hurts, but.
holly_fly 34
But, it's an open relationship. Even after months of trying everything else, that was the last thing to try. No, I'm not saying it's ever right, but maybe they did try a lot of other things.

Open relationships are NOT cheating. Cheating is going behind your partners back, open relationship and polyamory people can sleep with others with the partner fully aware and in agreement with it. If you cheat, you are selfish. Don't try to turn it where they are selfless, they think with their sex organs and ignore the fact it will hurt their partner.
MonstreBelle 29
Just like DoomedGemini said, having an open relationship is not the same thing as cheating on your b/gf. As long as everyone involved is aware and okay with an open relationship, then people don't get hurt by an open relationship anymore than a monogamous one. If someone is having relationship problems and has tried to talk about them but nothing changes, then it's time to end the relationship since it's clearly not working. Just because two people love each other doesn't mean they should be together. Cheating is a selfish action that is extremely hurtful and disrespectful to the person you supposedly love. If you're capable of betraying someone like that, then you don't really love them in the first place.

I've been single for about a year. My estranged granny used to tell me constantly that my engaged older sister is the family beauty and I'm lucky I make up for it with academia. Grannies can be dicks, OP, and your bf cheated on you because he's a cheater. Don't let granny blame you.

Everybody's weight fluctuates, that does not mean it's her fault or justifies her ex boyfriends actions.

Shouldn't have gained a few pounds for sure. Go grandma!
DoomedGemini 38
With that attitude, I see having relationship issues in your future. If you can't take people gaining a little weight, you are going to have a big issue. I haven't known anyone whose weight doesn't fluctuate. Not to mention, it's no excuse for cheating.

Yea, my grandma had a bunch of really old fashioned ideas and ingrained sexism, too. She thought I'd have trouble finding a husband because I had a career...

thats just disgusting.

Even if she gained a few pounds it is not her fault at all. I'm guessing OP might be a young adult and most if not all young adults go through weight fluctuations due to growing and all that. Her now ex is just a huge douche and her grandma is seriously rude.
