So unfair
Today, my boss decided that we no longer have to clock out for cigarette breaks, but we do for toilet breaks. I'm the only non-smoker on my floor, and I'm getting penalised for it. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, after my first day at work at a local daycare, I found out that I'm not entitled to breaks because I'm the only worker there who doesn't smoke. My boss asked me, ''What do you need a break for?'' FML
Today, I was fired from my job for not buying a pack of cigarettes for my boss. I only lasted two months in that junkyard. FML
Today, my coworker called out for the sixth time in two weeks with no reason, while my manager was out until noon. It was just the three of us in my department. He’s had zero repercussions and has been doing this for months. They threatened to fire me for taking five minutes in the bathroom. FML
Today, I told the coworker who sits next to me that I don't smoke weed anymore, after she brought a spliff to work. I then got called into the directors' boardroom to receive a warning for smelling like marijuana at work. I was only allowed one more warning before they were due to fire me. FML
Today, I got disciplined for sleeping on night shifts, by my boss, who also sleeps on night shifts. FML
Today, I saw my boss, so I mentioned to him, "Oh, I quit." He then interrupted, saying, "Great, I was going to fire you this week anyway." I wanted to tell him I quit smoking. FML
Today, my boss threatened to fire me if I didn't stop looking at my phone while working. I work in the back room, and there is no clock in there. I look at my phone to check the time. That way I know how long I have left in that hellhole. FML
Today, my boss told me that my attitude to work is awesome and that he'd follow my example of coming in half-an-hour early every day from now on. I relish those 30 minutes as the only time I can get work done without him constantly interrupting me. So much for that. FML
Today, I decided to stand up to my bosses for making me lose money and work with heat stroke... while my co worker got to go home early I had to work 2 hours later. Turns out I got a supervisor in trouble for making me work when there was help allocated. Now I have to walk on eggshells, FML
Today, I got written up because I took a dump at work that lasted longer than 5 minutes, and I didn't punch out for it as a "paid break." FML

Is that even legal? I honestly don't know if he can do that.

Just tell him you're going to smoke a cigarette in the bathroom!
Arokthis 21
Exactly!

Ask your boss if in exchange for a smoking break (since you don't smoke, but everyone else does) why can't you trade in a smoke break for a pee break and not have to clock out. You probably won't take as many breaks as the smokers.. since they get a break with pay, why shouldn't you?
niallo 23
So go out for a smoke break with the others. There's nothing to say you actually have to smoke.

At least he didn't see you so drunk that you puked on yourself.

Is that legal?

Rather poor way of putting it. I'm sure your boss didn't make this rule because he knew you were a non-smoker

Perhaps there is someone in the building who tends to take hour long "bathroom breaks" and the boss is trying to punish them/get them to quit.

That's a little ridiculous.

A little?

Yes, a little.

Comment moderated for rule-breaking.
#4, of course, he can. It's good to be a BAWS!

Nope. You're required to be allowed to be on the clock when you're in the bathroom

It's one thing to not allow the employee restroom privileges and completely different to make sure they aren't in there wasting paid time playing Angry Birds. If the boss completely cut them from using the restroom then it would be illegal. I really don't see it as a bad thing other than OP doesn't get to take breaks like the rest.

33, some people have stomach issues where they might be stuck in the bathroom for 30 minutes at a time. It is illegal to count bathroom breaks as an unpaid break, unless the person is pretending to have stomach issues. Then that becomes fraud for stealing company time.
Cazz91 21
I agree with you completely #45. I have stomach issues for my medical and this is something that happens to me. It is understandable for people to assume fakers wanting extra time shaved off from their work and get paid for it... But those people ruin it for the rest of us that don't fake to get out of work. Its incredibly frustrating to the boss not knowing who to believe and just as frustrating for those that don't fake it.

Agreed 45. I have Crohn's disease and when I get really sick (I'm in remission now) I would go to the bathroom every hour and it was not a pleasant experience. :/

Time to take air breaks.
doodlecloud 27
Might be difficult - I assume 95% of the air outside OPs office is smoke. :/
TheDrifter 24
Actually, if OP is in an office tower, the air in the smoking section outside is statistically likely to be cleaner and healthier than the air inside. And OP can just hit the loo on the way back from the fresh air break.

5- I'd say OP takes a bubble break. When the smokers go out with their cigarettes, OP goes out with a little bottle of bubbles and blows for ~10 minutes.
stardustjunkie 12
So those that smoke can use their smoking break to quickly pop to the loo as well? That sucks OP. Maybe start pretending to go out for a cigarette!
jkmartinjk 16
Good idea! Get one of those e cigarettes. It'll work until someone asks to bum a smoke...
Espolax 8
Well that's shitty
Spider_Web 11
Bad! Sit in the corner and think about what you said
Examine 7
Yeah that's a pretty shitty situation imo
perdix 31
Have your bladder removed and get a thrid lung inserted, to you can stop peeing and start smoking. I'm sure NHS will pay for you to get such work-related surgery!
Spider_Web 11
Yeah without a bladder it'd just be a constant stream of pee, so OP could spend all day in the bathroom!
Little4Bear 10
That is totally not right, you should definitely do something about that OP. Your boss is out of their mind
cp399 14
You can laugh when they're all dying from their cigarettes and you're still living a healthy life, breaks or no breaks.

By any chance is your boss a smoker...
