Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my mother came into my workplace to wail on me for "ruining our family's reputation" because I got a girl pregnant. I've been married to the "girl" for 8 years. FML
Today, my dad told me quite bluntly that, while he loved me, he never planned to have me. My mom baby-trapped him by sabotaging their birth control methods, and my existence ruined his life irrevocably and caused the functional alcoholism he has suffered with for 40 years. FML
Today, despite 18 years of marriage and two kids together, my father-in-law still insists my wife will one day grow up, realise I was the result of some rebellious phase she’s going through, divorce me and marry a decent boy from her hometown. FML
Today, I'm 9 months pregnant and the father of my child has suddenly decided that the child I've carried for 9 months isn't his, and that it was "too late" to try and fix our relationship. He's the only man who could be the father, he's just finding every excuse to say, "Sorry, but no thank you." FML
Today, my dad's new wife, who is two years younger than me (I'm 24) and hates that I'm a lesbian, threw a fit when I told her that I would never call her Mom. My dad took her side. I don't live with them but still… FML
Today, I realized my dad was right about everything: the hot guy who was attractive because my dad hated him so much really was a scumbag. I found out after he got me pregnant, vanished, and then learned that he also got my sister and cousin pregnant. FML
Today, I'm 29 years-old, yet my dad still thinks he can be the stereotypical overprotective dad of a teenage daughter who tries to scare off her boyfriends. If it wasn't for my mom who defends me, I would go no contact with him. FML
Today, I've hated being a parent ever since I was baby-trapped at 17, but I stuck through it and never let my son suspect how I really felt, and we have a great relationship now he’s an adult. Well he just moved out yesterday, and today my wife told me she’s pregnant. Here we fucking go again. FML
Today, I realized that my husband's family hates me for something I did 10 years ago. When I was 18. I’m so done apologizing for it. My daughter does not deserve to see her mother treated like this. FML
Today, on my wife's and my 30th wedding anniversary, my dad once again told me the "honeymoon phase" won't last and soon we'll begin hating each other, and fighting all the time. Dad, it's been thirty fucking years and we're still very in love. Just admit you and mom had a shitty relationship and leave us alone. FML

I think he's just trying to find an excuse to hate on your husband. A lot of dads get emotional when their little girls are taken by a man

That sucks. Stand up to your dad and just say "deal with it. It's my life, not yours."

Your dad seems to be looking for a reason to be angry.

I think people forget how old their kids really are sometimes. My wife's grandmother freaked out and said we were too young to have a second kid (two years after our first) when we are both in our mid-twenties with good careers. Good luck and hopefully our dad gets over it.

Please tell me he doesn't also take it out on the grandson/daughter.

No matter how your dad precieves it, your child is your bundle of joy and that's what matters. Have a talk with the old man and soon things will be okay.

Parents do have a hard time with their children growing up. Decades ago I worked in a flower shop a friend of my father's came in to start planning her daughter's wedding. as we were chatting she recognized me & freaked out saying I was too young to be married with a 2 yr old son.... I was 24. hope things get better

To be honest, 24 IS too young to be married *and* to have a kid too

she probably hadn't seen you since you were 16 and had trouble figuring out how old you might be

I know that exact same feeling but it's gotten worse moving back into town for a bit while my husband and I build up our financial foundation to buy a house so we can move onto a new chapter in our life. Both his and my parents live in the area and we're always bombarded by family matters more so then when we were living 3 hours away. My father wants me to divorce my husband, move back in and basically stay until I find someone successful in life or just live with them forever. No big deal, since apperently 6 years of marriage and multiple different struggles mean nothing to him. It's basically put a strain on myself right now when I don't need the added stress with other things going on in life. I want to say it'll get better, but each father is different with their own views in life and how they've gotten through. Hopefully he'll wake up one day and see what's around him instead of just dragging the hate for your husband. I just don't understand the stupid bullshit.

isn't that why people get married though? :/

Apparently he's never met a teenager whose life has actually gotten "ruined" by a baby
