Today, I went to a support group for my porn addiction. I was hoping I wouldn't recognize anyone there. The first person I recognized was my dad, and the second was one of my professors. FML

Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, while helping my dad look for his watch, I found his porn collection. FML
Today, I introduced myself as a sex addict, as a joke, to break the ice while meeting new people. One of my friends took me seriously and said he was a porn addict. He told me how happy he was that he had found someone else who had the same feelings and was so happy he could confide in me. FML
Today, my drunk dad went off on a tangent about his porn watching habits to the whole family. FML
Today, I saw my father for the first time in two years. He felt compelled to tell me about how he got involved with a BDSM group and got an STD because of it. FML
Today, I went to my friend's house because his family was having a move away party for him. Everything was going good until his dad decided to give a toast. Including an anecdote about how he walked in on us watching porn together. FML
Today, I bumped into my English teacher at an AA meeting. FML
Today, I walked in on my mom and dad. It wasn't my dad. FML
Today, my dad uploaded his porn collection onto our family server. My mom was convinced I did it and sat me down for a long talk. FML
Today, my dad showed up at my house and offered to take me to my favorite restaurant. He drove me to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. He believes I only had my daughter, who I love with all my heart, because I drunkenly hooked up with a girl. FML
Today, my dad told me he had been seeing someone for a while and has decided to marry her. When I met her, her son looked familiar. I lost my virginity to him. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?

Like father, like son. Although your professor's presence, in relation to yourself, is an anomaly. Please explain how one would overcome such a discrepancy, and don't forget to cite your examples. This is worth 50% of your final grade.

On second thought, a **** addiction doesn’t sound that bad. Let’s stay away from this support group...

Remember that they are there for the same reason you are, and so they aren't going to be judging you or thinking negatively about you. Quite the opposite, in fact - they will be supportive of you. Also know that if your group is anything like the groups I've been to (****-specific and addiction in general), you can say as much, or as little, as you want, so you can keep quiet until you've become comfortable with being there and with their presence. You might actually end up finding it helpful to have them there. One of the hardest things to overcome with any addiction (other than the actual addiction) is the shame and related feeling of isolation. Having people outside of the group who you *know* will understand you might be extremely valuable if you find yourself struggling with urges or triggers. At one of my first meetings (multi-addiction group), there was a woman I recognized but couldn't quite place. She was one of the facilitators, and her addiction was alcohol, not ****. Before the next meeting, she pulled me aside and said "Your son and my daughter are on the school <SPORT> team together. I wanted to let you know, because I recognized you and thought you might have recognized me, and wanted to make sure you were comfortable with that." It was great - made me feel much more comfortable, and gave me an immediate connection to her and to the group. A couple of months later, during a school event, when I was feeling generally triggered because I had to deal with my ex-wife face to face, just knowing that this person was there somewhere helped settle me down. I hope this is helpful, and please feel free to PM me.

Sounds like you and your dad have more in common than you thought 😂
