Petty thief
Today, my 19-year-old brother broke into my dorm and robbed me. When I tried to file a report, my brother went to my parents and told them that he took it because I owed him money on a bet. Guess who lost $92.50. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my brother finally paid me the $60 he owed me. I later found out that he'd stolen those $60 from my wallet. FML
Today, my brother robbed someone. The victim spoke with me and said that if his $1500 was paid back, he wouldn’t press charges. After I gave him the money, I questioned my brother until he admitted doing it. He only took $200. FML
Today, my 24-year-old, unemployed brother stole all of my food money and went out with his friends. His punishment from our parents? He has to pay me back when he gets a job. My stomach has to wait. FML
Today, I found out that my brother has been stealing money from me for the past five months. FML
Today, my brother bamboozled me out of 20$. He's 12 years-old, and I'm 17. FML
Today, I came home to found all of my belongings out on the street. My roommate, who is also my brother, apparantly neglected to pay his part of the rent, and we got evicted. FML
Today, my little brother came into my room and hit me over the head with his baseball bat. He then dropped the bat onto my floor and ran crying into my mother's room proclaiming I stole his bat and beat him with it for fun. FML
Today, I slept through my alarm and decided to call in sick. After falling back asleep, I woke up to my younger brother robbing my kitchen. It seems he's been doing this for weeks, every time I leave for work. He won't even give it all back. FML
Today, I found out my brother and his girlfriend stole my wedding ring, my checkbook and my disabled son's iPad to fuel their drug habit. I'm $600 overdrawn and have no food. FML
Today, after my aunt died and left me everything, I found my heroin addict brother searching my house, demanding his share of the money. He thought I had it in cash, so I called the cops. Now our mom is mad at me because a good brother would have given him something. FML

I don't care if he's family take it to the police

Even if you did "owe" him, that doesn't make it any less illegal to go into someone's living quarters and take it from them. It's still stealing.

Nope. He wants to play THAT game, call the police.

Were you filing a report with the police or your parents? He's an adult. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Take him on Judge Judy. She'd see right through that shit and call him a moron. If your parents tried to defend him, she'd say she sees where he gets his stupid. $92.50 buys a lot of Ramen seafood dinners with the microscopic shrimp. Think about it. Seafood.

File the report. He's an adult and your parents can't save him from being stupid forever. And if you can't get him for stealing your money you can at least get him for breaking and entering.

Still file a report. Your parents taking his side has no bearing on the fact that he broke the law

Wow. Even if one of my sisters owed me money, my parents would not be okay with me breaking in and stealing it. Your parents have their priorities mixed up.

Put your money is a dorm room safe or keep it in the bank. YDI to have that much lying around!

People saying that it doesn't matter if it's family, that's what's ****** up. No family values anymore.

Obviously OP'S brother doesn't value them. The brother shouldn't get away with theft. That's why it doesn't matter if it is family.

Why should family get away with anything they want? If someone does something illegal, they need to pay for it. You aren't helping them by letting them get away with it, you make them think it's okay or they're invincible and perhaps even escalate.

You're right. Family values would dictate that OP beat the living hell out of him, then call the cops. Brothers don't do that shit just for money. And running to his parents proves he needs a lesson about the real world.

I understand not wanting to call the cops and report him. If she does, he'll have a criminal record for life. My parents were in a similar issue with my cousin. My cousin stole from them and the initial reaction was to get the police involved (also so my cousin would realize how serious the situation was). But after taking time to think about it, they realized that they didn't want him to have a record for life for something he did stupidly in the moment. He'd never done anything like that before. So%2

My comment seemed to cut off. ...Anyways, they were able to work something out with him and his parents instead. He never did anything like that again and turned into a really good guy. I think op should try and work with her brother and parents without the cops first. Explain what would happen if you did go to the cops and how he would have a permanent record and how it would probably affect any job he tries to get. Maybe then they'll realize the seriousness of what he did and you'll get your money back. Hope you can do this all without getting the police involved. Good luck op!

Wouldn't matter if you supposedly "owed" him money..breaking & entering & theft is a felony crime...send him to jail.
