Pests
Today, I had mice in the house and had to kill them with mousetraps. I pulled a trap out with a dead mouse and my four year-old son saw. Mice are his favorite animals, and now he won’t speak to me. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I came home to find a mouse in the garage. Frantic, I killed it. My 7-year-old son came home from soccer, and started crying because he couldn't find the class pet, Mr. Whiskers. I killed my son's class pet. FML
Today, I set up a mouse trap to kill the rodent plaguing my kitchen. While lying in bed, I heard an unmistakable snap, and ran to see what I'd caught. The mouse trap was missing. I now have a large, angry, and possibly dying animal running around my house. FML
Today, after I'd saved a baby mouse and was filming a YouTube series of me taking care of it, my boyfriend told me he found a “rat” in the kitchen, but not to worry he killed it and fed it to the cat. He killed my baby mouse, and now he’s mad I didn’t praise him for his brilliant extermination job. FML
Today, I found a mouse in my kitchen. Wanting to go about it the humane way, I captured the little guy and released it outside. I then watched as a stray cat in my yard noticed and brutally murdered it. No good deed… FML
Today, I found a mouse stuck in a glue trap at work. I had to take it home to get it off with oil, and then I released it outside. Twenty minutes later, the cat returned it to me, dead. After that, the dogs dug it up where I buried it. Sorry, mouse. FML
Today, I went to empty a mousetrap, only to discover that SOMETHING had eaten the dead mouse's brain and eyeballs. I reset the trap, only to find a half-dead mouse struggling to get out an hour later. My office is like its own tiny little horror movie. FML
Today, I work as an assistant to a sculptor. We finished all our projects early so his wife decided to have me clean their kitchen. I wasn't paying attention and picked up a dead mouse. I screamed and threw it away as hard as I could. It hit their five-year-old son in the face. FML
Today, my son found a cockroach in his bed. I had to kill the thing and wash all his sheets and stuffed animals before he'd finally agree to go back to bed, three hours later. FML
Today, my daughter, who can pick up spiders and even snakes without flinching, screamed at the top of her lungs because she saw a mouse. Um, what? FML
Today, I was at my boyfriend's house, meeting his family for the first time. We were all standing in the kitchen when suddenly a small white and brown mouse ran by. Out of natural instinct, I stomped on it. Turns out, it was his little sister's pet mouse that had gotten out of its cage earlier. FML

There is a difference between cartoon mice, pet mice, and mice that are getting into your food. Children don"t usually grasp the subtleties of a situation until it is explained to them. It is the job of the parents to teach the child those facts. That can be difficult, but it comes with the territory.

Catch them alive and then what? I guess drop them off somewhere where they can get into someone else's house? Take them to a park so they can be eaten by raccoons and foxes? Live catch traps sounds so humane but if you catch more than one mice they often will kill and sometimes eat each other. I'm not against live catch traps but that may not be feasible for every person. For more on this see the YouTube channel mouse trap Monday. I've been following his content for years.

no kill traps are very nice. plus no blood or death or smells.

Mice are his favorite animal? That's suspicious if they just started showing up randomly...

You have to kill mice or trap them and release them somewhere where they won't get in someone else's house. They spread diseases like the honta virus which there is no treatment for. Make sure your son knows to never touch them or their droppings even if they are dry. Honta virus is a real thing. The natives have a saying that spring rains kill. This is because spring rains mean more plants that feed mice.

I realized I may have spelled stuff wrong.
