Overjoyed
Today, I got a letter from Yale Law School saying I got a 4 year full scholarship. I called my dad crying and read the whole thing… even the bottom of the letter, which said, "April fools' ! Love, Mom and Dad." FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML
Today, my mom called and told me I got accepted to my first-choice college. I got really excited and asked her to read me the letter. As she started to read it, she said, "Oops... uh, nevermind." FML
Today, I found out that my dad, thinking it was an advertisement, threw away a letter from the college I applied to. FML
Today, I was cleaning my father's study room and wondering why I did not receive my acceptance/rejection letter from a college I really wanted. I found the acceptance letter, on his desk, also approving of a full scholarship. The deadline to confirm was a month ago. FML
Today, I got a large envelope from a college I applied to earlier. My mom, expecting big news, made my family gather round as I opened it. It ended up being a letter of rejection from not just that school, but all three campuses of the state college. FML
Today, my parents gave me a letter they'd forgotten about since late last year. In it was a $30,000 scholarship to a local master's program with an application due date of two weeks ago. FML
Today, I found out I won a 20 000 dollar scholarship. After celebrating with my family by jumping around the room for a half-hour, we realized it was addressed to someone else with the same last name. When we called to tell her, she said it was weird because she had received my rejection letter. FML
Today, I excitedly told my mom how I got accepted to the master’s program of my dreams. She decided now would be a good time to proudly repeat for the millionth time how she gave up a full ride to the Ivy League to marry my father, and I ought to be a "good woman" and do the same. FML
Today, I got my acceptance letter from Harvard University. Yay! Unfortunately, I sent it as a joke, never thinking I'd get accepted and I have absolutely no way to get there, or the money to pay for it. FML
Today, I was accepted to college and received a scholarship equal to almost half the tuition. After sharing this news with my parents, I spent the next 35 minutes getting yelled at about how I wasn't allowed to go there because my boyfriend might go there. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?
Thanks, your FML was submitted, and will appear in the moderation queue soon!

That's crossing the line for an April Fool's joke.

Wow, it must've seemed legit enough to be a real document which tells me they put a lot of time into it... And for that, I'm not sure if they're awesome or assholes.

Next year, send your mom or dad a letter saying the other person wants a divorce.

Yeah, but then they'd be relieved rather than disappointed when they discovered it was a prank. OP's gonna have to do better than that.

Don't get mad. Don't even get even. One up the mother *******. I suggest a prank that involves convincing them they've won millions of dollars. Any other ideas? Come on, now. Don't be shy. I've found that collaboration often yields superior creative results.

Have you seen home videos of people being pranked that way? It gets pretty hilarious sometimes :P

18- Op could steal their identities and rack up a huge debt in their names, and then when their parents are all worried about it. Say April fools! It wasn't a random stranger, it was me!

#117, that's... a terrible idea.

124- I really hope you're joking. My comment contained a lot of sarcasm that I guess you didn't get. I thought it was obvious that what I said was a horrible idea.

OP should wait a while, then convince them that he/she is going to do something drastic (e.g. Become a stripper or something) because their hopes and dreams are crushed. Get them to believe it for a while. That should teach them.

Fabricating something of importance to them would be advisable here.

A medical emergency would be too cruel...? i really hope op does get into Yale soon.

Do you make a habit of not reading things to the end? Honestly, the "sincerely" part of letters is one of the biggest things that stand out. Plus, you don't even know the length of your dream school's program...that should have been a dead giveaway if you actually researched any law school...YDI for not completing important things.

I've gotten acceptance letters before, and at the bottom there's always a separation for signatures or names or what have you. The eye is immediately drawn to that. And if such a separation didn't exist, it wouldn't be much of a fancy letter (so in sure her parents took the painstaking effort to so it) Maybe it's just me. I usually pay more attention to tiny details than the main thing.

Next year, tell them that you're pregnant and housing an ex-convict

Sorry OP! Your parents are jerks :/ this is why I never believe anything on April Fools.

I don't know I'm into the whole Dom submissive thing so I dont think the books are "****** up" horrible literature and a bad example of what the Dom/sub lifestyle really is like, but not ****** up

115 -- no, it's just terrible literature. I'm assuming you're a Twilight fan as well?

I find the way they signed it to be particularly atrocious. If you really loved your child you would not pull this type of shit.
