Today, I found out that my dad, thinking it was an advertisement, threw away a letter from the college I applied to. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
Today, I found out that 15 years ago my father threw out my college acceptance letters so that I could stay home and take over the family's funeral home business. FML
Can't afford this shit
Today, I was cleaning my father's study room and wondering why I did not receive my acceptance/rejection letter from a college I really wanted. I found the acceptance letter, on his desk, also approving of a full scholarship. The deadline to confirm was a month ago. FML
Today, I borrowed my dad's laptop to type an essay. While I was saving it, I noticed some curious looking files and I opened them. They were rejection letters from all the colleges I had applied to. My dad had been forging them so he wouldn't have to pay for my tuition bills. FML
Today, I got a large envelope from a college I applied to earlier. My mom, expecting big news, made my family gather round as I opened it. It ended up being a letter of rejection from not just that school, but all three campuses of the state college. FML
Today, I was accepted to the college of my dreams. Then I checked the address. Turns out, the letter was meant for my neighbor. I was actually denied. FML
Today, I found out that the person sending me secret love letters was actually my dad, who felt sorry for me. FML
Today, my mom called and told me I got accepted to my first-choice college. I got really excited and asked her to read me the letter. As she started to read it, she said, "Oops... uh, nevermind." FML
Today, my parents gave me a letter they'd forgotten about since late last year. In it was a $30,000 scholarship to a local master's program with an application due date of two weeks ago. FML
Today, I was walking with a friend to tell him how excited I was for college and even motivating him to apply for the same school, until I found out later that I got rejected. FML
Overjoyed
Today, I got a letter from Yale Law School saying I got a 4 year full scholarship. I called my dad crying and read the whole thing… even the bottom of the letter, which said, "April fools' ! Love, Mom and Dad." FML

Did you get it out the trash?

Can't you just call then and ask them to resend the letter? That's what I did :)

Well, on the bright side, it really could have been an advertisement from the college.

Maybe he saw that you were rejected and pretended to think it was junk mail to spare your feelings? You have an amazing dad! My dad doesn't even let me read my own mail. He just throws it into the fireplace unopened and locks me back in my room under the stairs.

What if the person on the phone tells them "There is no need to resend the letter; you're not going here."? D:

Then at least they'll know what the letter said, than forever wonder if they were accepted.

I'd much rather know if I was or wasn't accepted to a college, even if it was over the phone, than find out way later that you picked a different college/career path than the one you did because your father threw a letter out. Even if it *was* junk mail, if it was addressed to you, no one has ANY business throwing it out but you. If the junk mail isn't addressed, it's probably a mass mailer (like pizza flyers or those things you get from real estate agents). If I remember correctly, I think tampering with someone's mail is technically illegal. =/

Sounds like something my dad would do. :P FYL

Dafuq?! Is there a way to contact the college to ask for another? Because I know some colleges do send a second letter in case the initial mail was waylaid or something like that... :/ My condolences mate.

Sorry for your luck. You can always call, and make your dad take you out for a nicer dinner or clothes shopping to make up for it.

Oh wow, I would be so mad! Try and call to see what it was, or check online. Good luck OP!

Don't worry that's not an important paper for work, that's a piece of advertising..

I don't quite catch you. Did you read the FML? It ain't advertistment.
lilhellian 27
I meant as payback on the dad.. As in that wasn't an important paper for work...

Don't worry #10 I had no idea what they were saying either. I understood it after Noor's comment and then the commenter explained themselves and I'm confused again. Though possibly slightly less now.

Sometimes parents can be so careless.

I can't believe the dad didn't even take the time to read it!
freshberries22 17
Yea that's exactly my issue with this situation. Ops dad didn't even give the letter a chance. I just don't understand how ops dad didn't know what college op was applying to or at least keep an eye out for any college letter.
GTAmax99 12
Ya, I mean you should at least know what it is before you throw it away...
