Today, I got my acceptance letter from Harvard University. Yay! Unfortunately, I sent it as a joke, never thinking I'd get accepted and I have absolutely no way to get there, or the money to pay for it. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I announced to my family that I got accepted into Harvard. My grandma laughed and muttered, "Liar." FML
Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML
Today, I got into my dream university. I also got turned down for the scholarship and the loan that would enable me to actually go. FML
Today, I was accepted to the college of my dreams. Then I checked the address. Turns out, the letter was meant for my neighbor. I was actually denied. FML
Today, I was cleaning my father's study room and wondering why I did not receive my acceptance/rejection letter from a college I really wanted. I found the acceptance letter, on his desk, also approving of a full scholarship. The deadline to confirm was a month ago. FML
Today, I got a letter from Yale Law School saying I got a 4 year full scholarship. I called my dad crying and read the whole thing… even the bottom of the letter, which said, "April fools' ! Love, Mom and Dad." FML
Today, my mom called and told me I got accepted to my first-choice college. I got really excited and asked her to read me the letter. As she started to read it, she said, "Oops... uh, nevermind." FML
Today, I received a letter saying that I was accepted into university and that I qualified for a number of scholarships. Too bad an equivalent sum of money will be spent fixing the car I hit, after spinning out on ice, whilst driving home from said university. FML
Today, I received another letter of rejection from the university of my dreams. I got it the first time, but thanks for reminding me. FML
Today, when taking a group picture with my closest friends, a passing parent congratulated us on getting into the same university for next year. She's wrong. They're all going to Cambridge, except for me. I was rejected. FML

The nice thing about Harvard is that if you're accepted, and cannot afford it, they will find the money for you to go there. Contact the financial aid department and explain it to them. Then, crowdfund for the money to get there. Good luck to you.

Anyone can afford Harvard. It's getting in that's the hard part. Once they think you're worthy, they'll do what it takes to get you there. Congrats! That's really great that your joke had such a good punch line.

Wow, RichardPencil is even being positive here. Congrats and good luck at Harvard! I agree - they'll often have strong needs-based financial aid. Don't give up on it, you can find a way to make it!

Get loans and a job. Congratulations

I'm sure that many family or investors would consider a Harvard student a good risk. You should go for it.

I clicked “you deserved it” but not in a mean way... clearly you deserved your acceptance to Harvard! Congrats, and I hope you’re able to take the advice from other comments and find your way there :)

Go. Private universities, like Harvard, have HUGE endowments. They can give you much more financial aid than public state universities. I went to an Ivy and only had to take out $6k in loans TOTAL. And that was only to pay for summer housing. I would've had to pay a lot more had I gone to a state school.

You sent it as a joke? Must have been very impressive. I guess if Elle Woods could get in, anyone can.
