Today, I was accepted to college and received a scholarship equal to almost half the tuition. After sharing this news with my parents, I spent the next 35 minutes getting yelled at about how I wasn't allowed to go there because my boyfriend might go there. FML

Today, I received my acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious universities in the US, as well as a nice scholarship. I was so proud of myself, I eagerly showed my dad, hoping he would shed a tear or two. His only words were, "Just get a job so you can get the hell out of my house." FML
Today, I got into my dream university. I also got turned down for the scholarship and the loan that would enable me to actually go. FML
Today, I was accepted to the college of my dreams. Then I checked the address. Turns out, the letter was meant for my neighbor. I was actually denied. FML
Today, I stayed in a hotel near the college I was applying for a scholarship. We were eating breakfast and there were some other applicants in the breakfast room. As we walked away, my mother yelled, "My daughter's gonna get this scholarship so there's no reason for you muddafuckas to show up." FML
Today, I changed all my plans, after months of him begging me to, so I could go to the same university as my long-term boyfriend. After I sent in my deposit, he told me we couldn't live together in college because I was "invading his space." FML
Today, I was walking with a friend to tell him how excited I was for college and even motivating him to apply for the same school, until I found out later that I got rejected. FML
Today, I went out to dinner with my mom and several of her friends. My mom spent the entire night gushing about my Ivy League school and med student boyfriend. I attend a state university and I'm single. She threatened to cut me off if I didn't play along. FML
Today, my mom called and told me I got accepted to my first-choice college. I got really excited and asked her to read me the letter. As she started to read it, she said, "Oops... uh, nevermind." FML
Today, I was invited to a special meal for receiving a scholarship from my college. My mom refuses to take me because “your sister’s going there too and didn’t get a scholarship; it wouldn’t be fair to her.” I guess fairness doesn’t apply to me. FML
Today, I got an offer to study at a good university. My father has been pushing me to apply for years, so I ecstatically broke the news. Instead of congratulating me, he just grunted and delivered the more important news that he's divorcing my mum. Moment ruined. FML

Well, she has a scholarship for half of the tuition, use financial aid for the other half. The financial aid I receive for college covers my tuition completely. I just have to worry about rent and utilities - which is why I have a job.

Agreed. OP, you are an adult now and you have to start acting like it. It is hard to get out from under your parents' wing, but you can do it. And if they love you they will eventually understand that you did what was best for you. Trust.

I don't know how it's in Oregon, but in some countries the parents are legally obliged to finance their children until they are able to care for themselves. This can also include support during the first study.

good point #5. It's easy to blame the parents in this one but did anyone stop to think that maybe they're right? Maybe she only chose that college because he goes there, and she is more qualified for something better (hence the large scholarship). Either way it wouldn't matter what her parents think, OP can just get a student loan for the rest and do what she wants anyway.
