No! Noooo!

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I told my parents I'm pregnant. I got a long lecture from my mom about using protection. It would have been fine hearing all that, but I'm turning 22, I moved out a few years ago, have a full time job with great benefits, and am getting married next summer. FML
Today, I announced my pregnancy to my parents, expecting them to be thrilled. Instead, they were furious. Apparently, being unmarried and on disability means I can't raise a baby. FML
Today, my parents posted on Facebook that they were excited that my sister was pregnant and couldn't wait to be grandparents. Last week I told them that I, a 33-year-old happily married woman, was pregnant and they told me I was ruining my life and encouraged me to have an abortion. FML
Today, my parents are freaking at me because I just got my report and I failed my first year of college. They told me they have never been more disappointed in me. I have to tell them that I'm also pregnant. FML
Today, I got fired for not being mature enough. I just found out I’m pregnant. FML
Today, we told my fiancé's parents that I'm pregnant. His mom's response? "I'm going to throw up. You can't raise a child." We are both 28, self-sufficient and everyone else is thrilled. FML
Today, I woke up to my father sobbing his eyes out in the kitchen. Apparently, I screamed, "DON'T TELL THEM I'M PREGNANT!" in my sleep last night. FML
Today, my husband and I told my parents that I finally managed to conceive. My mom burst into tears of joy and said how great it was that she's finally going to be a "real" grandma, all within earshot of our adopted and now-devastated daughter. FML
Today, I happily announced to my parents that I'm pregnant. My dad later handed me a printout containing a list of nearby abortion clinics. FML
Today, I told my dad that I'm pregnant. He shook his head and said, sadly, "What a waste. You're way too young to throw your life away like this." Silly me; I was worried that at 46 I might be too old for this. FML

you're pretty much the definition of stability, why would they be upset about this? congrats on your baby, I'm happy for you.

How old were they when they were pregnant with you?

No kidding. I was married a year and a half, working full time as an engineer and had our first kid at 22. 31 is perfectly acceptable! Nothing completes your life like kids

That last sentence is subjective. Congratulations to OP though. I don't understand their reaction at all but luckily, it's your life, not theirs.

I honestly see no reason why they'd get upset. You're more than old enough to make your own decisions in life. Maybe they didn't expect you to have any..

If you're their only child/ first child to have a baby they might just be overwhelmed. Just give them time to let it sink in. Congratulations though :)

I'm pretty sure a negative reaction like that isn't because they are overwhelmed... That excuse doesn't work, you know?

Idk why you got so many thumb downs, but you have a good point

#4 has a point, up to a point. While its understandable that parents would be a little upset at hearing their baby is no longer a baby, yelling at your grown, married, pregnant daughter to the point where she starts crying isn't understandable. At all. You can have "Oh no! My baby is all grown up!" thoughts going on, but to vomit that much anger at someone who did nothing wrong isn't okay. I hope OP gets a hell of an apology for this.

They have no reason to yell at you. Congratulations on the baby (: That is wonderful news. I'm sorry they didn't see it as such.

They may have a (un)reasonable opinion of the father. I have no idea why else they would be upset for.

Their opinion of the father, unless he is abusive, needs to stay to themselves. Their daughter is a grown woman and can handle herself.

I don't know about that 47 , If i was a parent and my daughter got pregnant by a, lets just say, methhead, then I wouldn't be the happiest person. Now what OP's parents did was way out of line and shouldn't have happened, but they should be able to talk to their daughter about concerns/feelings

Congratulations on your pregnancy OP! I'm sure they'll come around when they see their gorgeous grandchild. If not then it's their loss!

You're 31 but you still can't use proper grammar? If you told your parents TODAY "I was" isn't what you should use. "Today I told my parents I AM pregnant." See the difference? Using "I was" makes it sound like you've had an abortion. Poor thing, it's sad that I'm fifteen and I know simple grammar rules but you're 31 and still don't. It scares me that you people are the ones running our country.

woah you're so edgy.

Using "was" in this case isn't wrong and your comment makes you sound extremely ignorant. So much for being 15, huh? Look up "reported speech" in your textbook.

Congratulations. You are officially more mature than your parents.

Congrats. My parents went ballistic when they found out my sister, 24 at the time, married & had good job was pregnant. I think they didn't realise that mummy's little girl wasn't so little anymore. Things turned around really quickly when the baby was born. She's still the favourite grandchild to this day.
