MOOOOOM!!
Today, my daughter was putting clothes in the drier when she yelled, "Mom!! The drier won't start!" I had to explain to her that the door needed to be shut. Her response, "Oh. I didn't know that mattered." She's 15. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I finally confronted my daughter about never using air freshener after she poops. She said, "But I thought flushing made the smell go away!" She's 15 and she actually believed this. FML
Today, my 17-year-old daughter didn't do the laundry. Her excuse? "If it was meant to be done, it would have done itself." This is the same daughter who yesterday tried convincing me she was responsible enough to get a dog. FML
Today, I walked in on my daughter trying to blow-dry the sweat off her armpits instead of showering. FML
Today, I noticed that my clothes had shrunk. My mother seemed to be having trouble with the new washer and dryer so I tried to show her exactly how they work. After my explanation she said, "I know how they work. I shrank your clothes to give you some incentive to lose all that belly you got." FML
Today, I confronted my 18-year-old daughter about her excessively lengthy showers. She said she didn't see the big deal, considering the water "comes free with the house." No dear, it doesn't. FML
Today, I had to tell my daughter that just because markers say "washable", it doesn't mean that you can draw all over our newly-painted walls. She's 15. FML
Today, my daughter put a doll in the microwave "to keep her warm". She's 17. FML
Today, after I was away for a couple of days, my wife told me she’s been doing laundry while I was gone. I'd reminded her to clean out the lint catcher because it might catch fire. I came home to a new dryer and a smoke damaged house. FML
Today, when I went to pick up my daughter from preschool, I found out she'd "accidentally" tried to flush her clothes down the toilet while going to the bathroom. FML
Today, I approached my daughter and told her she needs to clean her room. Her response was, "Thank you Captain Obvious." She's 4. FML

you need to teach children things, they never just know them on their own.

Wouldn't closing the door be common sense?

Yes I agree but common sense isn't taught. and closing the door is just that.

I think we all learned to close the dryer door before turning it on because we all never saw the dryer on with the door open...

We're talking about a fifteen year old teenager, not some six year old. If you're in highschool, you should know to close the door to the dryer

Why? Most devices function just fine with a door open. The only exceptions that I know of are microwaves, dryers, and dishwashers. If you haven't had your kid working with those before or showed them using those before then I don't think it's reasonable for them to just know it. I'll admit that I probably would've tried it but my parents encouraged me to explore and be inquisitive. So I naturally have been troubleshooting things. There wouldn't be logic behind it. I would have just been trying random things like pressing buttons again, checking the plug, and the like. But lots of parents don't encourage those values, especially for young girls.

It's called problem solving. Most people that age can figure out how to work a washing machine without any help.

Well I guess she had to learn at some point. On the bright side, she knows for the future and can help with laundry now

Yea, I thought the same. A suprising number of 15 year olds have never done laundry.

Even if they have never done it themselves I find it very hard to believe they haven't seen one of their parents doing it.

Seriously, go to the laundry room of any college in a froshling dorm during their first month or so. Tons of kids never figured out how the machines work.

At least she is not 20 or something

hey it worked without the door for that guy eating noodles...
weveallbeenthere 30
it's time she learned how to do laundry
fiveforfighting 26
While that is common sense you're the one that should have taught her...

America going fully stupid.
fiveforfighting 26
Because this definitely reflects America as a whole.
cheeeksss 29
I think judging a whole country based on one person reflects more stupidity than the 15 year old in this FML.

And you can't spell dryer. How old are you?
laurenswims13 24
I thought that was spelled wrong
brightsky 2
Dryer is the actual machine that dries clothing. Drier is another form of more dry. So that means... A dryer makes clothes drier. The op used the wrong form.

Finally, someone said it

So? Honest mistakes happen. No need to be sarcastic.
Bidnitch 3
Sarcastic... I don't think you know what that word means.

Does she happen to be blonde?
