Today, I learned that the landlord tenant act does not apply since I'm living in the same house as my landlord. She's making my life a living hell and breaking my things. I still have 3 months left in the contract. FML

Today, I found out, through Facebook, that my landlord hadn't been paying the mortgage on the house I'm renting from him. It's going into foreclosure. FML
Today, the lease on my house ended and I finished moving in with my girlfriend. After everything was moved in, she broke up with me. Hello homelessness. FML
Today, I rented a house for 5 years with my girlfriend, only to find out she is the actual owner. FML
Today, my landlord's control issue got out of control when I got a call telling me I have "too much stuff" and have to move out of the apartment. I sold all my furniture when I moved in and all I currently own is a scratch post, a chair and a pair of curtains. FML
Today, I got home from work to find an eviction notice taped to my door, stating that I was a nuisance and had 30 days to vacate the property. I live at home with my parents. FML
Today, I found out when my new roommate said she was self-employed, she really meant unemployed. She insists that I let her stay for free or she will file a sexual assault case against me. Rent is due on the 10th. FML
Today, I moved into my new apartment. My neighbor is apparently crazy and thinks I'm trying to 'steal' her husband. She watches me and is super paranoid. I have a two year lease. FML
Today, I was on my couch when my landlord walked in. He asked what I was doing there. I responded with the same question. Apparently my roommate forgot to call me and tell me that our lease ended three days ago. I am now standing in the parking lot with all my belongings, and it is raining. FML
Today, my landlord came over while I wasn't home. My friend and her pets were thrown out by her husband. I'm the only person she knows in this state and she begged me to stay. I reluctantly told her fine; just don't answer the door. She did, with the animals, and told him she was living here. FML
Today, after pointing out to my landlord that they have taken nearly $6k from me through illegal rent increases, I was evicted for the first time in my life. FML

Since the landlord tenant act doesn’t apply then is the contract really valid? Maybe you can leave now without giving the required notice from the act.

I thought I could, I can't. The landlord tennant act may not apply, but the contract is still valid, she knows exactly what she can and can't get away with, she's a lawyer.

If this is in the US, The LandLord/Tenant act does, in fact, apply to renting a room in a house. No idea who told you otherwise.

The landlord, who "is a lawyer" told her so! If she is a lawyer and misled a tenant, it should be reported to the State Bar.

Look for a new place to live or change it to a month-to-month contract. I had the same thing and she had crippling anxiety and panic attacks, and wouldn't do dishes, or pay the electric, the house was eventually foreclosed on, homeless people had more rights to the place than paying tenants, and she blamed me and my dead for five years bunny for roaches when SHE would track grape jelly footprints and pee on the floor on a daily basis. Look for a new place and get OUT of there!
