Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, my fiancé asked for money to bail his brother out of jail, the same brother who happily spent a whole day recently trying to convince my fiancé that I've been cheating on him with my own cousin. So I said no. He shook his head in disgust and said that I'm "unbelievably spiteful". FML
Today, my boyfriend called me explaining that he is getting married this weekend to a woman he met on Craigslist. Why? Because I won't marry him, and he'll make an extra thousand dollars per month having a wife since he is in the army. FML
Today, my dad is refusing to let me marry my fiancé because he said no when my dad asked for a loan of £10,000 to help clear some gambling debts. Apparently that shows my fiancé has poor family values and will be a bad father and an alcoholic husband. Impressive logical thinking there. FML
Today, it's been two years since my fiancé proposed, drunk, and with no ring. Recently, I overheard him on a Zoom call with a work colleague who'd not talked to him since he was with his last girlfriend, who was much more attractive than I am. The colleague asked if they were still together and he lied and said yes. FML
Today, my boyfriend told me he's prepared to commit to marriage, but only if I buy my own ring and tell everyone he surprised me with it. FML
Today, I was out with my boyfriend, when he started browsing wedding rings. He found a ring, proposed to me right there in front of a crowd, and then was promptly denied a payment plan. We left without a ring. FML
Today, my fiancé told me that he expects me to agree to quit my job to cook and clean after we get married, or he will not show up at our wedding. He earns minimum wage and my salary is 17 times higher than his. FML
Today, I found out that my fiancé's parents are refusing to pay for a honeymoon, because they "didn't have one, so neither will we", meaning they won't pay for a single thing for our wedding. FML
Today, I was supposed to get married. Instead, my sister made up a story about me cheating on my fiancé at the bachelorette party. He bought it and dumped me, despite there being no evidence of this. Turns out it was all a plan because they were secretly seeing each other for months. FML
Today, my dad had a chat with my fiancé, telling him he can do better than me, and to think carefully before going through with our wedding. FML

4 years ago he proposed and he is still just your fiance? I'm not judging just curious.

They are well aware of the fact that you met him before he was rich, they just don't like you.

Sounds like you need a new boo!

He's probably just looking for an excuse to break up

I am so sorry you wasted 4 years on someone who just uses you and takes you for granted. That he would chime in with his parents and not take your back is a huge red flag. I hope you are able to move on from this because it is pretty clear he is not worth wasting any more time.

Well it gives a new perspective on the whole 'for richer, for poorer' bit in the traditional vows! Turns out more money can change things just as much as less, you deserve someone who'll stick by you through both!

Op should totally remind him of that part of the vows they were going to take and explain how she's been there for him through both, he should be able to do the same for her. Maybe remind him op of when you were paying the bills and remind him of how you stood by him then, and it's therefore not possible for you to be a gold digger.

Drop him...it seems like his family has him convinced that you're a gold digger and if he's not willing to stand by his (soon to be) wife's side then there's really no good that could come from it...more than likely it'll be an up hill battle from here on out

Sounds to me like he might actually be the gold digger... He asked OP to marry him when he was broke and unemployed in order to share her money. But now that he has his own he's not interested in her anymore, he wants an upgrade. That seems more believable to me than that he's so stupid he actually forgot when they met, or so spineless he's letting his parents control him...

Trust me, it's better in the long run. They showed their true faces.

How on earth did he manage to go from unemployed to rich in 4 years? I'm currently unemployed and could use some hope
Tripitaka 21
I'm guessing he had a lot of luck, because, evidently, he is not very smart.

This is gonna hurt, OP, but it's the truth. You were his poverty and struggle GF; now he's seeking an upgrade. Someone that matches his new, expensive stuff. I'm really sorry.

What happened when you told them otherwise?

Ouch, when you aren't able to get a wedding because he's rich
