Today, I went to a coffee shop with the change I got back after buying a ball. After having waited in line for around twenty minutes, I was told that only credit cards were allowed. I'd left my wallet in my car because I thought I didn't need it. FML
That's not legal in some areas. I believe NYC or NY State does not allow it because homeless people need street food and they often don't have credit cards. Besides, cash is legal tender for all debts, public and private, for crying out loud.
That's normal in other areas, though, like San Francisco, where lots of stores and coffee shops lost my business because they didn't accept my American cash and I didn't want to rake credit card fees at their place.
