Today, my girlfriend of 2 years broke up with me because I hadn't popped the question to her yet. For the last six months, I have been respectfully trying to convince her over protective father to give me his blessing. FML

make sure you tell her about her dad's refusal. Pour on the guilt! mwahahahaha

So when she broke up wiht you, you should have told her that. What the **** is wrong with you people, you let everybody ******* step on you and control your life. YOU DONT NEED HER FATHERS ******* BLESSING ANYWAY this is a free country and women do not need their fathers blessing, permission, or approval to do ANYTHING ESPECIALLY choose a man

GZ #2, you get the dumbest-reply-on-fml award.

So when she broke up with you for that insane reason, you just, what? Stood there? You didn't explain? This is the girl you've been wanting to MARRY for the last six months... and you just let her break up with you? I don't buy it.

Seriously. Don't people communicate with each other anymore?

You don't have to, but it is a formality that shows respect. How often do you bless someone who sneezes? In the olden days, sneezing often was an indication that you quite likely had a terminal disease, and were praying that your soul goes to Heaven when you die. People still do that today, even though sneezing is almost never related to fatal diseases. The limp-dick OP should have mentioned this to the girlfriend the first time Dad said no. The only thing that matters in reality is that without the dad's blessing, he is saying he doesn't want to pay for his daughter's wedding.

Ok so i was reading the comments and i completely agree that its a respect thing. But i do think she shoulda suggested it herself plus she didnt have to leave him.

i agree with number 54. What's with you and goats?

I would want my boyfriend to get my father's blessing. Though, my parents love my boyfriend. so I guess it wouldn't take 6 months.

It's a courtesy deal, nothing about sexism. You're the sexist for making it a sexist issue. I'm tired of new age feminists who have no clue what it is to actually be a feminist. Feminism isn't about stupid issues like this, it's about equality and legal rights protection of women. If you think it's such a big deal and that this man was in the wrong, why couldn't she have asked him if she really wanted to get married? Nothing wrong with that right? I mean we're all equal now right? Way to try and dodge responsibility for all women out there. Hypocrisy at it's best right here. FYL OP. You can try to explain to here that you've been trying to get her father's blessing for a while now, but her father hasn't given it to you and that's why you haven't asked. If that doesn't work, then you're better off without her, she'd just find someone else to guilt trip you about later.
