technically, you actually can have email working when the internet isn't. they use different ports. but yeah, it's pretty unlikely, so that was still a pretty stupid idea.

Look, you would have been just fine if you actually did your damn homework. You didn't, and now you pay the price. What's the worst that could happen? You get a zero on an assignment? This is NOT a FML at all.
Trust me, I'm not defending this guy, 'cause let's be honest...that was truly stupid and doing the work would have saved a whole lot of hassle. However that doesn't mean it isn't an FML. He didn't do the work, got caught lying, and realized that he was stupid enough to basically rat himself out.
