Could be worse. Could've been me!
I actually laughed out loud
No, you have to pay for your own money with some other money.
Otherwise, this would be an actual FML and not just someone complaining that they overdrafted.
The overdraft was the banks mistake for screwing up the bill pay system.

No, he just made it sound like the bank's mistake. Have you ever used a bank bill-pay system? You can either set up a one-time payment, or you can set up a schedule that does exactly what you tell it to do. The bank doesn't try to intelligently determine when your bills are due. It just pays when you tell it to pay.
He really shouldn't have signed up for automatic bill pay, though. That's why stuff like this happens.

YDI for being poor!
Get a new bank. And when you close out your account at this bank, make sure they know the exact reason why. Don't let them sweet talk you back in. Be firm and go to another bank. Write a letter to the president of the bank with your complaint, publish it in a blog, on Facebook, on Twitter; coming here to FML was a step in the right direction.
Or he can stop overdrafting. Either way works, really.
I agree with the getting a new bank part. And I doubt you care what I think about the blog stuff.
oh wait this is the internet.
DOWN WITH YOU
yeh i can see it now "This bank is shit, they followed their protocol exactly and did what i requested of them, and because im an idiot who cant handle my own funds im now in debt but theyre going to reimburse me if i restore money to the account even though im to blame! FUCK THESE JERKS"
yeh thatll show em. fucking assholes.
Better yet, switch to a credit union. Banks are evil and will screw you every chance they get.
Everyone's going to read his blog/Facebook page/Twitter account. He's going to start a revolution against [bank]. Yeah!

Bullshit. If the bank agreed it was their mistake and agreed to fix it, they certainly wouldn't tell you that. They'd just put the money in your account.
You need to make copies of any all proof you have of what happened.
You NEED to take the copies TO a bank location and then you NEED to talk with a MANAGER.
You NEED to MAKE them resolve THEIR mistake!! Do NOT take 'no' for an answer.
I went thru something similar when I wrote a check for $100 something and my bank paid out $1,000 something.
That's a good way to EMPHASIZE things. Think I'll try IT.
do the american thing- sue them.
Stop listening to e-lawyers and go seek real legal advice. Either that or bend over and take it up your ass.
wow what assholes, no wonder people rob banks id want to level that place.
Bank of America? No kidding. They've done it to me...
SUE THE PANTS OFF THOSE MORONS
Um, extraneous circumstances aside, it's usually the fault of the company whose bill you are paying, not the bank's. The bank is often just an innocent bystander. As for getting both credit for both the fraudulent charge and the overdraft fee, you need to file a complaint (which you already did). Just be lucky that you have an account at a bank that is compensating you for the overdraft. Not all banks do this, nor are they even necessarily required to.
If you are required to return your account to a zero balance first, then unless the employee's information is wrong, it must be a stipulation of your bank's policy. YDI for not knowing or understanding how your bank account works. Instead of whinging on about it, just pay the balance and you'll have that much more added to your ending balance. This is not an FML. Get a life.
all the posts on here are just dumb ass customers. i can only speak for my bank..and if there is an error on our part, we correct it. which is kinda rare. it's usually the dumbass unknowledged customers who keep .10 cents in their accounts.
unknowledged! LOL who's unknowledged?
What, are you Nigerian royalty or something? :P
sounds like you use bank of america, heard they do this kinda stuff to people all the time... from someone who used to work there
the bank I work for will automatically correct any error that is our fault. it sounds like it was your fault in the scheduling but the bank is agreeing to reverse the fees. in order to do that your account has to be positive. of course this is all speculation so whatev...
Yeah, Bank of America is a terrible bank, switched my money away from them as soon as they swallowed my nice little local bank. I would be interested to hear which bank this is that screwed you.
