Man or woman?

Today, my parents and I went to the movies for my mom's birthday. After the movie, my mom and dad got into a fight, and left me at the movies. My cell phone was dead, and my house was about 12 miles away. They finally came and picked me up, hours later. FML

I agree, your life sucks (17051) - you totally deserved it (1312)

???? Like seriously? Your parents suck, dude. They suck really bad. Really.

#1 - On 11/26/2009 at 6:16am by wordgirl

It's not their fault he's not loved enough for them to remember him.

#59 - On 11/27/2009 at 1:04am by mikeyboi19

If they were going at the same place, why the hell will they take 2 cars to go there?

#4 - On 11/26/2009 at 6:21am by rontifu

Yeh im confused too, why would they leave you there because they were fighting?! Did they drive home to go fight in private and leave you there? Or do they infact have 2 separate cars? Either way, i don't see why they would leave you there! I hate poorly worded FML's.

#8 - On 11/26/2009 at 6:37am by lmaoatyourlife

Make up sex at home, they didn't want him around and came back for him when they were done :-D

#14 - On 11/26/2009 at 7:17am by Armin

I think what happened was they came in one car, but got so angry that they drove away quickly and forgot about the OP.

#31 - On 11/26/2009 at 10:55am by zeal

ya happened to me, but they came back for me after like an hour and a half

#72 - On 12/01/2009 at 4:08am by acai_blueberry

Oohh, that sucks.

#3 - On 11/26/2009 at 6:20am by FMLAddict1313

Atleast they came to pick you up.... i dont really see the FML here.

#5 - On 11/26/2009 at 6:28am by Antivirus

Yeah...and OP was at a movie theater, so he could've spent that time watching movies or something : D

#28 - On 11/26/2009 at 10:25am by swooshq

that really depends if he had money

#69 - On 11/29/2009 at 12:23am by Bansheethekilla

well if the movie was michael jacksons this is it, it woulda been a slit ur wrist moment. so FYL either way

#6 - On 11/26/2009 at 6:33am by anoymousjoe

Maybe they weren't really fighting. Maybe they wanted some special alone time 'cause it was her birthday, and could think of no other way to get it. Either way, it's an FML.

#7 - On 11/26/2009 at 6:35am by RadSam

Could be, or their make up sex is the best.

#10 - On 11/26/2009 at 6:59am by waterynuggets

Ah, I think you're on to something.

Why didn't you start walking? You could have probably made it home in the "hours" you had to wait for them.

#12 - On 11/26/2009 at 7:09am by loki09

do you not have any friends that you could have called?

#15 - On 11/26/2009 at 7:55am by xoconnie

the cell was dead!!!! READ

#50 - On 11/26/2009 at 3:54pm by patticake1601

Never heard of a payphone, or asking the theatre to use a phone? Or stop someone else and ask to borrow a phone? YDI

#76 - On 01/19/2010 at 2:29am by Canuckian

Uh, you say "your cell was dead" so presumably you could have called for rescue if only you had a phone. Do you not think explaining your situation to the people at the movies, or to any nearby businesses, might have gotten you the use of the phone?

Furthermore, for future reference, a human being walks at around 4 mph. "Hours later" to be picked up is around the same amount of time it would have taken to walk home.

So yeah, YDI. I have no idea how anybody here is voting FYL.

#16 - On 11/26/2009 at 8:02am by Chantallika

Since we are in the habit of putting numbers into our cell phones, few people these days have numbers memorized. Asking to use someone else's phone is becoming a thing of the past.

Besides, this sounds like a teenager. Having your parents get into a fight and abandon you is distressing, and had I been in a similar situation as a pre-driving teen I wouldn't have known what to do.

Also, a brisk walk for a healthy adult is 3mph, not 4, meaning it would have been a 3-hour walk home. Are you suggesting this stranded kid just start walking, without knowing whether the parents were home or not? He/she probably didn't have a key to get into the house, either, since he/she was out with the parents.

This is a sucky situation, are you're incredibly insensitive for not realizing that.

#60 - On 11/27/2009 at 1:27am by firbranches

I believe your parents intended to leave your lame ass but felt guilt-ridden when they got home and had a change of heart.

#17 - On 11/26/2009 at 8:07am by VirtuallyUnbreak

Are you kidding me? It was only 12 miles! I've walked home from my movie theatre that was about
that exact distance -.-

#18 - On 11/26/2009 at 8:27am by Person1233

charge your cell when it gets low... it's not that hard to do

#19 - On 11/26/2009 at 8:52am by guckylynn

dude, slap your fucking parents and be like, what the fuck was that for you stupid bitch?

#20 - On 11/26/2009 at 9:01am by jazzmancarron

that sucks how the hell do they forget their kid?

#21 - On 11/26/2009 at 9:22am by Dopeyrox

At least they didn't leave you stranded in a graveyard.
\^o^/

#22 - On 11/26/2009 at 9:27am by blastvortex

Why didn't you just walk home? It's only 12 miles.

#23 - On 11/26/2009 at 9:40am by Theo_the_Proud

That totally sucks :[ Same thing happened to me once...except it was my best friend and her boyfriend. They got into a dumb arguement and left the theatre. My cell was broken so I did nothing until one of the workers was kind enough to drive me home (don't worry, it wasn't a stranger. She goes to my school. Not a best friend, but I don't dislike her). I agree, FYL. And those who say YDI, that isn't really fair to the OP. He did nothing wrong. It's not like it was his fault that his parents were fighting (if it was, I say YDI. But since I don't know the back-story, I cannot assume it was his fault. Therefore, FYL). I'm sorry you had to wait such a long time. Hope you had a serious chat with your parents about that...I know I would!

#25 - On 11/26/2009 at 10:01am by sLAUGHTERxx

Walk! You probably need it. 12 miles is nothing. And who knows, you might even enjoy it...

And there is a perk to it, too. When your parents came back and you weren't there, they probably would have wondered what happened and been a little bit worried...

#26 - On 11/26/2009 at 10:09am by RufusCade

Damn... Your parents suck ass...

#27 - On 11/26/2009 at 10:20am by Bloodknight

hours later? you could of walked home 12miles isn't far.

#29 - On 11/26/2009 at 10:32am by lahp

That sucks. 12 miles is a lot. I might just be lazy, but I think it's a pretty long distance.
By the way, I'm not fat :) Just lazy

#30 - On 11/26/2009 at 10:44am by sayheyyybabe

To those saying the OP should have just walked -- the average person walks 3 MPH, so 12 miles would have taken 4 hours to walk. Assuming they went to see a movie at night, which probably ended somewhere around 9 PM, that would mean the OP would've been walking until 1 AM. We don't know if he lives in a safe neighbourhood, or if he has a reason he can't walk.

I do agree that he could've found a pay phone or asked to borrow the movie theatre's phone, but don't slam him for not walking home.

#32 - On 11/26/2009 at 10:56am by couleurdemiel

no sympathy here dude. if he's in a hurry to get home because he's anxious to be left at the theater, honestly do you think he's going to walk the normal walking speed? hell no he's out like a light. so he would make it home a lot sooner if he walked. I know, because when I was younger, I was left at soccer practice which ended at 3:30, and waited till 8:30 pm. to be picked up. I tried calling my parents on three different peoples phones, and still no answer. my house was farther away than 12 miles, but finally I walked home and it wasn't that bad, took 2 1/2 hours. so YDI

#38 - On 11/26/2009 at 11:34am by hXcsoccerplaya

Again, he might not have lived in a neighbourhood where it was safe enough to be walking around at that time of night, or he may have some kind of physical disability that prevents him from being able to walk that far.

#57 - On 11/26/2009 at 10:17pm by couleurdemiel

I wouldve found a payphone or borowed someones phone. but I would have called my grandma or a friend cuz I would have been so pissed they forgot me that I'd disapear for a couple days. from now on just put ur phone on the charger at night I do it and it's never died on me.

#33 - On 11/26/2009 at 11:05am by WhyworldWhy

YDI for not just asking to borrow someone's phone and calling them

#34 - On 11/26/2009 at 11:06am by danceydancetime

This is a huge YDI. Learn to use a pay phone and / or borrow someone else's phone. You know, that's what people did back 15 years ago when no one had cell phones. I'm sure if you talked to the staff at the movie theater and explained your situation you could have used their phone. Once again YDI for having zero common sense.

#35 - On 11/26/2009 at 11:11am by prosive

Wow, and you could have totally guilted them out. If they got so emotional that they left you there, this is what you should have done:

- Ask the theatre to borrow their phone (and their phonebook, if necessary)
- Call a friend for a lift.
- Go to said friend's house for two or three hours, giving them a bit of time to panic.
- Have the friend (or friend's mom or dad) give you a lift home.
- Tell them your phone was dead and it took hours to get a lift home, after you started walking.
- Get awesome gifts for the next year as your parents try to bail themselves out.

#75 - On 12/12/2009 at 7:18pm by tisiphone

you guys are all missing the point of this fml, as usual.
the fml is that the op's parents forgot about him in the midst of their fight, and basically left him stranded at the theater.
it's not that his cell phone was dead and had "zero common sense" to get home.

you guys just think of an excuse to say ydi every time, and it's really fucking annoying.

#36 - On 11/26/2009 at 11:20am by katinthehat

Then the FML would read "today my parents left me at the movie theater Because they were fighting" the waiting for hours/dead phone/12 miles away is a part of why his life is fucked, even though he did have control over that particular part of the situation. Really the OPs of FMLs usually could have avoided the situation getting worse with common sense, in almost every FML I read.
Like everyone else you should have used someone elses phone. This really strikes me as you did think to use another phone but then the situation wouldn't have been so bad to complain about later so you sat there and waited acting helpless. After hours of waiting you would think the thought of using a different phone would come up...

#43 - On 11/26/2009 at 12:26pm by KarasuFyre

I believe he added that in so people wouldn't say "SO, just use your cell phone! Or walk home!" Everyone bitches when not enough info is provided. Now all the info you could need is there, but now everyone is distracted by that.
The FML is that his parents don't give a fuck about him. But a 12 mile walk is worse than a 1 mile walk, and thus he put that in. It's just the icing on the cake.

I also agree with whoever said he probably went to a late movie that ended around 9-10, so walking isn't practical. Plus he may live in a bad area.
His parents left him to fend for himself when they were (presumably) the ones with the car.

#45 - On 11/26/2009 at 12:46pm by Intoxicunt

True. But if that was the case he should have known people would bitch about not using another phone.

And do movie theaters not CLOSE where all you people live. If the movie was late he wouldn't be able to stay in the theater for hours waiting anyways, not where I live anyways.

#46 - On 11/26/2009 at 1:12pm by KarasuFyre

wow..your mom and pop sure scream, "parents of the year"...

#37 - On 11/26/2009 at 11:30am by xoluvinshayxo

Abandoning your child for hours - 12 miles away - is abuse and a sign of unfit parents.

If a mandated reporter was there (police, teacher, pychologist) he/she would have to file with DCF or whatever it's called in your state. So I'd tell one of them, or call DCF yourself to give your parents the message that it isn't okay to abandon you for any reason.

#40 - On 11/26/2009 at 11:52am by DrewsFML

You are one of those kids who screams child abuse when your mom smacks you upside the head for being a moron, or spanks you, aren't you?
Depending on the age of the kid they probably wouldn't care. Abandoning a ten year old for hours is wrong, a 16-17 year old not so much...
This situation is not bad enough for it to be required for someone to report, I doubt very much he is a small child.

#44 - On 11/26/2009 at 12:32pm by KarasuFyre

Why didn't you take public transport home?

#41 - On 11/26/2009 at 11:55am by troublant

Ahem,
Bad parenting much? Childline!

#42 - On 11/26/2009 at 12:11pm by DecayDance

Your parents are inbred aren't they?

#47 - On 11/26/2009 at 1:23pm by Mortanious

Hahahah that sucks really bad but that is so funny

#48 - On 11/26/2009 at 2:29pm by davina

I wouldn't have walked home, but I would have borrowed the movie theaters phone. There would have been sympathetic managers around..

#49 - On 11/26/2009 at 3:18pm by Ketia

oh my goodness. ot must of been a bad fight.... lol

#51 - On 11/26/2009 at 7:28pm by jacksonrox2213

that sucks but they might have gone to have sex. at least they came back to get you

#52 - On 11/26/2009 at 8:09pm by fagtastic_iva

Ever heard of a payphone? They still exist, you know.

#53 - On 11/26/2009 at 8:57pm by Gen2105

It's called a payphone or a bus. If you have a cell phone, you should have at least have change. I mean come on! Don't be completely dependent on your phone or your parents. Especially when the leave you like that. There's always a bus stop around.

#54 - On 11/26/2009 at 8:58pm by girlingreen

They probably just staged the fight so they could have wild birthday sex at home, uninterrupted.

#55 - On 11/26/2009 at 9:04pm by Trebie

Pay phones still exist, you know.

#56 - On 11/26/2009 at 9:05pm by somebodyshy

what do you think your parents were doing for hours before the noticed you were gone

#58 - On 11/26/2009 at 11:41pm by rainman51591

I have no idea why everyone is being so harsh on the op. Being a teen and having your parents forget you = awful. You all need to go back to school to learn how to be human beings.

#61 - On 11/27/2009 at 1:30am by firbranches

Fucking parents.

That sucks :(

#62 - On 11/27/2009 at 1:36am by PSP_Hacker

You were stuck at a movie theater
Hmmmmmmmmmmm what is there for you to do for a few hours at a movie theater...
Dumbass XD

#63 - On 11/27/2009 at 2:42am by Bud

so your cell phone was dead...are you brain dead too? why not ask someone to borrow thier phone or here's another idea, use a pay phone and if you dont have money for that, ask an employee to borrow their landline. YDI for being a fucking moron

#64 - On 11/27/2009 at 12:04pm by sportsnut

Why would they leave?? I don't understand this. You could have used the theatre's phone, though.

#65 - On 11/27/2009 at 5:08pm by insinuendo

Some people choose not to drive, and use public transportation or a bike for the environment. And SOME people can't afford a car...

#66 - On 11/27/2009 at 5:10pm by insinuendo

fuck it!!!
just watch another damn movie
duh!!1

#67 - On 11/27/2009 at 8:36pm by no0000ob

The "fight" was total BS. They just wanted to go home and shag without the kid there!

#68 - On 11/29/2009 at 12:22am by indyme

if my parent left me in a graveyard. they would be the newest entries in there especially a 12 mile walk

#70 - On 11/29/2009 at 12:26am by Bansheethekilla

So what if your phone was dead? Use the theater's phone. Or a pay phone, or a gas station phone.

Call *SOMEONE*.

#71 - On 11/30/2009 at 1:18pm by ozymandias

Thats happened to me before =/

#73 - On 12/01/2009 at 11:40pm by Alphacide

they went to go have sex. and wanted you gone.

#74 - On 12/07/2009 at 1:03am by sharmart
